It is something new where a design made of metal is heated up and applied
to the skin. Kinda crazy if you ask me but people do it...

Not my cup of tea either, but when I was in college I remember reading stories about the Intrafraternity Council having to deal with "branding" as part of the initiation ritual at some black fraternities and sororities. The men received theirs on the arm, the women on the thigh. I've no idea if the practice continues today (this was mid-late 1980's) but it was common enough at the time to keep those organizations from being officially recognized by the campus IFC.

I was invited to become a member of a frat that used 'branding', when questioned about my willingness I said 'sure where is the magic marker'? Needless to say, I was rejected. Talk about a mindless practice.

You're not thinking clearly Brazilophile, this woman has no value system.  She tells you she's religious but her words to you indicate she's lacking in principles and character.  Run away from this situation, you can do much much better.  A person of integrity wouldn't meet other guys on the side while they have a boyfriend in waiting.  Her "out of curiosity" meeting with you is much more likely a excercise in shopping the field (i.e looking for better offers).

A lot of really bad people hide behind religion to disguise their true self and intentions.  You got a good glimpse of her true character when she told you she was more or less willing to marry anyone to get out of her situation.  This is not a person who believes in things sacred. This is an opportunist willing to play with people's feelings, love, and emotions to get what she wants.  Don't entertain any thoughts of this woman, she's bad news. Ask yourself truthfully, why you'd be willing to settle for something that has "disaster" written all over it and is so obvious to see.

P.S.  There are "evangelical" like movements within Catholicism.  I happened upon a "charasmatic" Mass one time and promised I'd never ever return as it appeared too much like an evangelical Protestant service for my liking.

Oi Brazilophile,

I appreciate your numerous detailed trip reports.  One comment though...you sure you want to get involved with this lady after her telling you that her main goal is getting to the US and doesn't mind using her current boyfriend to accomplish this!  I would be thinking that she might be using you as "Plan B".  Proceed with caution.

Pablo

Had this lady actually met her boyfriend in person or was it a purely E-mail relationship?
