Hey everyone,

Well, I leave for Barranquilla on the 24th.  Like many of you, I find myself doing this because it's so difficult meeting and developing relationships with women who live here in the States.  Actually, I wished it was not like that, but it is.  I live in South West Florida and there are no opportunities to meet people where I live (rural).  I'm 42, and have no children.  I'm at the top of the hill in my life, and I'm going for the gold.

I'm somewhat nervous about this trip primarily because I have a fear of flying.  However, it's worth the anxiety to possibly meet a nice woman.  The things we do for love :-).  I will be sure to keep all of you posted as to how it goes for me.

I have family in Florida. Yes, South West Florida. I know you don't have much there just because you say "South West Florida." (Haha! Maybe you understand that one?)

Though I don't have the Colombian experience under my belt, I can understand the flying issue, so that is why I am posting.

I was nervous about flying for many years, and then I found a solution.... Hang out at the airport for a day.
While I was in boot camp at MCRD San Diego (Marine Corp Recruit Depot), the barracks were right on the runway. Instead of missing home at night, I would lay in bed watching and thinking of how many planes took off and landed safely.

Have fun!

I was the same way for years after a crash into the ocean off the Bahamas.  My younger brother solved the problem with a simple statement.  "Remember, the pilot also has a vested interest getting there." I think of this everytime I get on the plane and have no more problems. (Plus you can't swim to the USA from Colombia.)

I found my Colombiana and I hope you find yours.  A good percent are keepers.  Good luck and let the board know how you make out.  If BAQ does not work try Cartagena or Cali.

A la orden,

Gator

If you get anxious when you get on the plane, do three things.

First, do what Gator said. Remember that the pilot also has a vested interest in getting there.

If that doesn't work, remind yourself that the chances of a plane going down are one in one million. It is MUCH more dangerous to get into your car, even if you are a perfect driver. Also keep in mind that these planes can actully land by themselves on autopilot. This is true!

If that doesn't work either, take a good dose of Valium. Seriously, it never fails. Valium is long-acting and should last long after you get off the plane, thus  minimizing your anxiety about being kidnapped on your way to the city. (a two for one deal)

If all of the above fails, take a boat.

Good luck with your trip. I'm sure you'll have a great time.
Please give us a trip report when you return.

P.S. If you need valium and are having trouble getting it,
I can call some in for you, but only 4 tablets, no more!
And no refills. send me a private email if you want.

I predict you are about 17 or 18 days away from saying:

"What took me so long"

Buena suerte!!!
