Just back from HK and she said "Yes" - so it was a worthwhile trip.
Met some of her friends there, and one was sweeter than the next. They are not like North American girls - they're nice.
Really sweet and very innocent girls. How innocent? Well, we spoke about kids and she said one, maybe two - which surprised me, since Filipino families are traditionally rather large. I asked why, and she said, well, a woman only has a 50-50 chance of surviving childbirth - sometimes she dies, sometimes the baby dies, sometimes they both die.
Needless to say, I was shocked - this is 19th century stuff by american standards. i told her so. she said, why? i said, better medical practices. so she started to think about it.
this girl is not stupid. but she does come from "the provinces" and basic information about sex is rare in a largely catholic country. she was going by what she had seen growing up - "a poor woman who can't afford a hospital just goes to her home to have a baby." she knew of a neighbor who died in the process.
Anyway, very sweet girls with a very hard life. So different you can't imagine it.

She is right about the aspect of middle age ladies, with good strong character, but I have met some that had all types of vocations. I have been to several homes they work. I found the helpers in Singapore to be more approachable, must be me. You will see the entire array of personalities, just like here in the states. I will visit the phils this fall (say this fast), but I always stop in HK because it is economically easy to stayover, that is all. I have not married one yet, perhaps I will not.

Nothing wrong with plugging a we

Next trip to the Phils for 2 weeks.

Hi John, and Congratulations!

Good luck to you and your sweetie.  I too have met a bunch of HongKong Filipinas (maybe 25 of them) through my wife Sally, and I was always amazed at their good character and sweet disposition.  None of them were desperate to get married; they had the means to support themselves and if anything they were over-cautious about making the commitment.  Many of them sent a good amount of their pay home to the Philippines to help their families, yet they live apart from them for many years with only the company of foreign employers and other Filipina workers.  For those that finally go home for good at the age of 40 or so, the prospect of marriage has then become a long shot.

Jean makes some good points.  It's just her opinion, she wasn't posting a scientific study.  So please don't take the words of some of our other friends here too seriously; I think they've been sharing the same jug of bad moonshine Shocked)

Hi Abu Jimbo,

Well Manila girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear
And the Visayan girls with the way they talk
They knock me out when I'm down there

The Luzon farmer's daughters really make you feel alright
And the Angeles girls with the way they kiss
They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be Butuan City
I wish they all could be Butuan City
I wish they all could be Butuan City girls.

The Philippines has the sunshine
And the girls all get so tanned
I dig a shorts and a T-shirt on Camiguin island
Dolls by a palm tree in the sand (for Humabdos)

I been all around these 7,000 isles
And I seen all kinds of girls
Yeah, but I couldn't wait to get back in the city
Back to the cutest girls in the world

I wish they all could be Butuan City
I wish they all could be Butuan City
I wish they all could be Butuan City girls.... :oD

I am not sharing what's left of my jug of moonshine with anyone. I had to walk all the way to the top of Hooper's Bald to get it...past all of the shot up cars and blown up stills.

.. and jam with a kid on a bridge? I hope you didn't wear that tight shirt. After all if Ned Beatty couldn't make it down the river without having to squeal like a pig - what chance would you have? LOL

I shouldn't razz you - most of my family is from North Carolina and my uncle always had the best white liquor around!

Hi Jeff,

Ned Beatty won an Academy Award in the category of "Actor In A Supporting Role," for the film "Network." Why he didn't receive an Oscar or at least a Golden Sow Award from the Future Farmers of America for his work in "Deliverance," is way beyond me. I think that the "pig role" in "Deliverance" was one of Ned Beatty's most challenging and finest roles. Not a Ned Beatty film goes by, that I don't fondly recall his heartfelt squealing, even after all of these years. I am glad to see that he wasn't type-cast for only animal roles. Say, was he in any animated Disney movies or the voice of Babe? I hike and raft in the area where the movie was filmed and Ned's "virginity" lost. I never forget to bring along a large caliber handgun. These days I am looking more like Ned Beatty than Warren Beatty and can't be too careful. ;o)))

I don't know, "Otis" in Superman gets my vote for a oscar caliber performance.

I heard that the river where Deliverance was filmed was the very same one used in the Atlanta Olympics for the canoeing and kayaking events . Geez, if Ned Beatty couldn't get down there without having to squeal like a pig, what do you suppose they thought whan all those Europeans came down with their pink bicycle shorts on?

Hi Sally,

Thanks! Well...I kind of "borrowed" heavily from the Beach Boys "California Girls." But there song goes "dun...dun...dun...da...dun...dun" and mine goes "dun...diggi...dun...da...dun...dun." That kind of happens when Rob Van Winkle lives in your neighborhood. Must be something in the water. ;o))

... in response to Filipinas in Hong Kong, posted by johnh on Jul 17, 2001

Congratulations John on your engagement.  Yes, life is much different in the Philippines than your USA and it differs greatly by area.  WE are like many countries.  Some provinces very basic like you say and some are modernizing very rapidly.  I have been exposed to much Western information.  Much more than most. My favorite TV is news channel.

I truly believe Filipinas (OCW) working and living in other countries, especially Hong Kong, make the best wives.

We have gained enormous experience by living abroad even though we live in a very strict situation with the Chinese families.  Most of us are college educated and are the "Choice Ladies" by the Chinese employers. We have already adjusted to living away from our home town and family.

We have seen  and experienced more of the Western culture, which better prepares us to live in your country.  We are accustomed to working very hard six days a week.  As Nannies and domestic helpers we are experienced in running a household.  We know the proper care of children, cooking, preparing for family gatherings and parties, cleaning, sewing, shopping, dealing with schools, merchants, etc.  We can cook a wide variety of foods.  I  know I have learned and matured a tremendous amount since I have lived in Hong Kong while retaining my traditional Philippine values. But it is still our trditional Philipino values that contribute the most to our success in marriage.

I noticed that the majority of those that have gotten married on my website work in in HK or Thailand, even though there are fewer listings than those living in PI and also receive fewer letters because most of their addresses are not free.  I belive men find true what you & I know.

Blessings on you and your fiancee,

Jean

What are the qualities of being the best wife?
Isn't  that only a husband can tell he has the best
wife in the whole universe? No one in this board can
prove that I either me or Filipinacupid or 'te CArrise is
the best, right? Who can tell?

GEeeeeeee.
