In 1997 there were 160,000 OFW working in Hongkong. 75% are domestic helpers and nannies. 15% are entertainment and 10% are skilled workers.

Tneal which part in Hongkong did you see those bar girls? In Wan Chai? Maybe you mix them up with the other nationalities like Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Yeah, you can see the ladies that work the clubs, most of the club girls work in Feely bars, where the guys are free to grope for expensive drinks. Many of these ladies were Pinays, I did not go, but my coworkers did. I sat outside and ate some kinda chicken and rice. (at least that is what I thought it was).

It's kinda like the American stripper mentality, most folks want to believe the girls do it for a reason.

They were still nice to me though.

You didn't answer Sally's question.  Probably because your first hand experience is sitting in a drunken stupor in a bar.

Hey Jimbo,

What's wrong with sitting in a drunken stupor in a bar? It's better that standing in a drunken stupor in a bar (ROFL).

I had many good times in Wan Chai, also known as the "Suzie Wong District". OBTW, I never saw any Filipinas in the bars, just Chinese. But I haven't been going there for 40 years like tneal, just 33 years. Man, Tom must be Really old! :-)

Most Filipinas in Hong Kong are domestic helpers.  The 'working ladies' that I saw in MongKok were all Chinese.

... in response to Re: Filipinas in Hong Kong make the best..., posted by FilipinaCupid on Jul 17, 2001

HI JEAN..Please tell me, are you still employed by a Chinese Family in Hong Kong, or are you concentrating on your website ? I am only asking because I was under the impression that you must be devoting yourself fulltime to all your internet endeavors. You seem to pop up wherever I navigate in search of meeting Filipinas ! As a matter of fact, I have communicated with both you and your lovely sister before. Tess is also a very beautiful woman, who seems to be everywhere on the net promoting your websites and Yahoo clubs etc. You both seem to be doing a very good job, and by the way, congratulations on your engagement (is it an engagement ?) and all future plans.

Several of the women that I have talked to in Hong Kong were so anxious to get married and to form a relationship that I was mildly put off by it. You know the old saying, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is ? Maybe you could set our minds at ease regarding this issue. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this concern. Also Jean, could you speak to the subject of modesty as it applies to the average Filipina. I have thought for a while now that the typical Filipina, raised in the traditional way, was very conservative and religious, ie: your Filipina bikini(hehehe). I am a bit confused to visit your new Yahoo club and see the typical western glamour shots (realize that you must compete with the Russians hehehe), and also that most of the girls will accept divorced men with no discussion of an annulment ! This leads me to believe that they don't take Catholicism very seriously, which was one of the main reasons why I was attracted in the first place !

Thanking You in advance....Tom

Hi again.  More time now.  Let's see where was I.

Tess say thanks for compliments.  I am very proud of my sister.  We are very close in age and sometimes think like twins.  She has been here in HK three years now.  She finished college here.

You ask about some Filipina you met seeming anxious to marry.  True, but of men also. Can you guess how many marriage proposals I have received from men I have never even met - how AnXiouS is that!  I believe most desire a loving marriage and happy home life.  Very few of us have much courtship experience and are just doing our best.  But sometimes that misguided by belief YOU are more alike than seeing YOU as an individual - just assuming you have certain beliefs and are of strong character, simply because you are "Western" man.  This distant courtship process has two sides (maybe more) with many issues.  That is why knowledge and communication are sooooooooooooooooOO00000OOooooooooooooooooo important!!!!!

Yes, I am finally making some money selling my eBook "Filipina Courtship Secrets" but the reason I sleep few hours for almost a year writing it was to help men & women avoid much of the heartache I have witnessed.  So many serious problems start as minor misunderstandings.  I have seem many year long penpal relations dissapear over misread meanings of words or even a "lost" letter.  Many engagements fall apart unnessarily.

I have been helping introductions for several years now and have seen so much. I have learned much information myself as I interview the men and women during my Personal Searches.  So, please listen to her "eyebrows" as well as her words to understand why she seems anxious.  It may be acceptable or not, but do not make assumptions that are logical in YOUR culture and stop there, OK?

On being conservative. When I go home I still wear "walking shorts" T-shirt with bra to beach.  I only wore my first 2 piece here in HK about 3 years ago and that was in private pool with other women only.  Then I stated wearing it to beach sometimes (the red & black one pictured on my website). Last year I wore a true bikini for the 1st time (the blue one pictured) but I didn't appreciate the goggling of the Chinese guys so now I wear a more conservative 2 piece Jerry gave me.

Again this is an individual issue.  Some girls even wear the thong but rare.  Many here and in PI Cites and resorts wear what we call "tankini" while fewer do in rural Province.  Being perceived as "loose woman" is to be greatly avoided so wearing modest clothing is very important.  I have actually ask for women to send sexier pictures to post as most guys seem to like that and certainly the other sites have plenty.  Most are still just snapshots and "most" of the time the woman looks much better in person.

Most women very serious about the Catholic Church.  Most would prefer to marry a Catholic man. Most would prefer to marry a man that that has never been married.  However, there are many men that would make excellent husbands that are other Christian faith or mild in their beliefs or have had prior marriages, so many women are willing to compromise on these issues if other character traits are good.  Again, this vary widely by individual.

Tom, your faithful Catholic girl is here.  Blessings on your search for true love.

Jean

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your many good posts.  I pray you are well & happy this day.  You ask several questions:

I have in my 5th year in Hong Kong.  I have been very fortunate and have great relationship with family I live & work with.  They have two children - the ones you see in pictures on my website.  We are very close and that has been only problem as their Mother naturally get jealous feeling of me sometime.  I am their domestic - cook, clean, shop, nanny for children which take most of my time, tutor - I was an elementary school teacher in PI, and personal trainer. (Hum, I sure I leave out gardener and, of course, biggest job of all, misc :-)

My website has many helpers, "thank you Lord." Tom, as you know I paid Tess' college tuition and she majored in Computer Science.  I write - she program, upload, and FIX. Another friend does the ads, Teri & her Dad do the finances & promotion, Helen, Heidi, Julie, and others help here & there, especially with Personal Searches.  So, I NOT the superwoman it looks like, honest!

My engagement postpone again, as I not accept Jerry's proposal until we spend more time in person.  Meeting in person is soo important.  Many letters & telephone conversations are also important.  Quick decisions are risky.  AS much as we bash INS & Consulates, they do provide big services of "delay," "information sharing" & "shared stress situations" which allow couple to get a better "real world" look into their fiancee's personality and character.

Tom, I have to stop now. I will answer more later.

Blessings,

Jean
