My HMO does not cover foreign travel. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get medical insurance for Colombia. I will be there for a month.

I would think just about any travel agency could get you hooked up with trip coverage for a month. There are some companies that specialize in year round international coverage. I looked into them as an option for living full or part time in Cali but the premiums are pretty high. The plan I finally got in Cali provides reimbursement for foreign medical attention including in the US but only at Colombia rates for the service.

No I didn't mean that. I don't think you can without a visa and cedula. I think your best bet is getting a months coverage through a US travel agency. I would check with the big ones like Carlson Wagonlit (or something like that) etc. I think I've heard of ones that will even jet you back to the states in a flying ambulence if need be. For that length of stay you are probobly smart to get it. I have an American friend who was visiting another friend in a village north of Cali. He got up in the night and tripped over the other friend's black dog in the dark and fell and snapped his forearm so that it dangled loosely. They took him down to the hospital in the small city of Tulua where he lay on a bed in agony for some hours untill his friends got a thousand dollars together to pay the doctor. Only then did he get operated on. So...
