I am considering going to Colombia to find a nice Christian girl. I am assuming that it is a small percentage of girls in agencies there are practicing protestant maybe one in twenty¿ Any ideas about this or experiences¿ If that is the case would it be worthwhile to go to an agency for this small ratio of candidates or would it be more fruitful to place an add in newspapers papers or at agencies and wait for them to contact me¿If I go I would stay for 6 mo. or a year as long as it took to meet court and marry a nice girl. I might teach english there as I have done in San Diego and Mexico to make spending money. I am 38 never married no kids and speak fair spanish and have traveled extensively in Mexico and currently live in Cuernavaca, Morelos,Mexico. I would start attending a church there of course but want to increase my chances of meeting the right girl, Thanks in advance,  James

Hello DFWGuy,

I just read your post. If it would be ok, please pass on my email to any of your wife's Christian friends who may be interested in conversing with a single Christian man for possible marriage intentions. I am in BC, Canada, 32 years old. Unfortunately I do not speak any Spanish yet though.

Thank you and have a good day,

James,
If you can spend time there and speak spanish I would go and attend the protestant churches. They are in the minority but growing. My wife was a catholic untill 4 years ago.Her family found a non catholic christian church, and she will now attend no church but this one.The closest one is in Atlanta so she doesn't attend church, although she gets audio tapes from her family and prays every day.
She says"I am Christian,not Catholic."I tell her,"Sweetheart,Catholics are Christians."Not to her they aren't.
I'm sure my wife would fill you in on her church (it is unique,in a good way)plus she is trying to find guys for some friends from there.

Pete:  Now that your wife has figured out that us Catholics are not Christians, maybe you can also inform her that we also have tails and hooved feet underneath our shoes.

Thanks

Actually I think it is somewhat innocent. To her Catholics are Catholics, she was one most of her life.I don't know if they ever used the word Christians, they were Catholics.
The new christian churches springing up are not catholic and refer to themselves as christian. So to her there are catholics and christians.Of course catholics are christian, but when I tell her that I think she thinks I am trying to say they are they same, which they are not.(the 2 forms of churches she knows)
I don't know how loyal of a catholic she was,but she doesn't have anything good to say about them now.Of course you must remember that the Catholics run everything religious in South America, and many people resent their power and their collection box.It can become considered sort of Quasi political/business institution.
When we were in Cartegena our guide took us to an old fort/monestary.Some of the exhibits were about the church and she wouldn't go in the room. She said"I am not Catholic".I said "neither am I ,but this is historical."
I guess I will put in my complaint about them. They say you can't have a divorce but gave (sold?)Frank Sinatra an anulment after 3 children and about 20 years of marriage.Hipocritical with a big "H" I think.

This topic has been discussed a time or two.  Go to the Search archives page and do a search on "evangelicals".
