After several unsuccessful trips to Cali with the now-defunct LC, I decided to try letter-writing again. I've been writing to several TLC ladies the last 2 months. Thank God for Email. Five years ago when I tried TLC, it was all snail mail.

Wouldn't you know it, my top 3 ladies are in 3 different countries: Peru, Panama & Colombia. Do-o-o-o-h!

So, where do I go on my 9-day vacation?

Because of scheduling, I've decided to visit my #2 lady in Panama for a couple of days, then hop down to Barranquilla (1 hr. away) for a week to meet #3 and several more on my list.

My #1 lady has a killer weekday schedule, so it would be better to see her on a weekend. Plus, I don't have any other penpals in Peru, in case #1 doesn't work out. I can try a long weekend in the fall, or wait till she gets her tourist visa (hopefully her Oct. interview at the embassy is successful) & meet her in the U.S. later this year.

As a famous idiot (me) once said, Visiting penpals is like a box of chocolates... You never know what you're gonna get.

I don't know Barranquilla, so any advice (lodging, eatings, outings) will be welcome.

Suerte to all... John O.

Ok...I'd rather spend time in Barstow than visit Barranquilla.  Well...that might be a little harsh. But I'd stay at the Hotel Puerta del Sol in BQ.  It's very nice, good food, nice pool and bar, and friendly employees.  There's another one but I don't recall the name.  It's even nicer and close to this hotel.  Beyond the hotel there's not much, in my opinion.  Good luck.

Hey Pack thanks for the vote of confidence. Actually there's a lot of Colombia I haven't seen and probobly never will at least volontarily. After you're fully recovered don't forget about that night class we talked about. I'm in one now myself. Just one night a week. You'll find you're ahead of the other beginners because of your Colombian experiences. Go easy and take care. Cali-vet
