Damn I'm over here killing myself doing this marathon workout.  I opened my big mouth on facebook and challenged this dude to a backyard boxing match and it went viral.  Now all our friends are talking about it and placing bets.  The problem is the whole time I was in colombia smoking pot and drinking guaro, my opponent was working out.  Now I've got 4 days to get in shape so I don't get my ass kicked in front of a bunch of people from my old neighborhood.  There's going to be at least 20 or 30 people there watching, maybe more.  Damn I need to quit talking smack to people on the internet.  Or if I do talk smack on the internet at least do it anonymously.

HELL YEAH!!! Pleeeeeeeaaaaasssse post a link!!! LOL!

Awesome, I've probably had more fist fights than sexual partners. I couldn't count either if my life depended on it. You're obviously going to get tired before this guys so stay on the defensive at first and let him punch himself out a bit. Keep your hands up and use your head. When people aren't professional boxers they usually telegraph their punches so you'll see where they are coming from long before there's a risk of them striking you. I don't know why in the hell guys always throw haymakers as the first punch in a fist fight; but a jab straight to their noses to stun them and a hard uppercut to the gut right afterwards have always worked much better for me. Good luck!  8)

Yea, if it's 'street boxing' a lot of rules go by the wayside. Tie him up, work some short body shots, tiring him to start, but while it's not nice, pull away real quick, and from an angle with your strong arm closest to your opponent, throw an elbow/upper forearm bone hard into his chin--cheek bone side of his head--about an inch or two up side from his chin side bottom, giving him a good whack with 4-5 inches of your forearm bone--that'll rattle the bejesus out of him. If not cold cocked, he'll be dizzy a good while. Beats a square hit to the chin or nose every time and they rarely see it coming. That's what my Uncle, who was a Bronx golden Gloves champion, told me, along with if there was any chance I'd be getting into a fight, to carry a roll/s of nickels to keep in my bare fists and if the fight was gonna happen no doubt, to get the first lick in.

We used to go 12 rounds, sometimes 15, but actually it rarely lasted that long and if it did, we'd lose count half the time anyway!

Haha!  Thanks for the advice, I'll need all the help I can get.  We're going to be using boxing gloves, so it won't exactly be "street rules" or "prison rules" lol!  We're going to keep it clean, so no elbows RA...

I already know exactly what this guy's going to do since we've boxed each other before.  He's shorter than me and he basically just throws nothing but hooks.  His biggest advantage is he just keeps coming and coming.  I've landed flush, crushing blows on this guy before and he's the type he just starts fighting even harder.  That's the only thing that worries me.  He's not skilled at all but he's just downright mean and very determined.  As I get tired and start wearing down, he turns it up a notch.  And supposedly he's been working out pretty hard and practicing his moves and punches.

When we've boxed before it was a more private thing with almost nobody watching, meaning little to no pressure.  Where I think I messed up is I announced it on facebook, and now everybody we both know who lives close to us is saying they're going to show up and watch.  Alot of these people I feel like I'll be damned if I let them see me get showed up and the other guy feels the same way.  This is the type of dude who ALWAYS has to show out when females are around.  So it's adding a whole new element to the contest.  I honestly want to back out of the whole thing, but there's no way I can without looking like a total and complete douchebag loser.

Control him with your jab and straight punches and don't forget to punish him to the body

Haha!  That's EXACTLY what I plan on doing.  Straight punches, the jab and the straight right.  You must know a little bit about boxing MC.  When you get somebody who comes at you with wide hooks they usually leave themselves wide open for straight punches right down the middle.  The trick is getting your punches off before those hooks start landing.  I'll give him some nice rib shots if he comes in real close, other than that I'm not going to concentrate too much on his body.  We're only going to go 2 or 3 one minute rounds.

Another bad habit this guy has is when he starts getting tired he tends to drop his head down and he leaves himself wide open for the uppercut.  My only problem is it's way harder to throw a proper uppercut than it looks on tv when the pros do it.  Yea it's easy to throw an uppercut when you're shadowboxing in front of a mirror but in the heat of a fight it's not near as easy as you'd think it is.

Use the uppercut as a finisher. Keep him on the end of your punches make him pay for every inch of real estate.

If you're going to be trying to tire an opponent who's shorter than you out by working close in and tying him up, using body shots and such, especially in a non pro bout, look out for head butts.

Opportunities for strong uppercuts don't happen too often close in, but body shots  can during the clinch. In the time it takes your opponent to throw a hook, a jab can typically be delivered, largely neutralizing the hook. Hooks and haymakers are almost desperate, late round measures, although a hook is deadly if a guy's vision to that side is compromised. Having longer arms, the jab and combinations may be especially useful other times.

I really don't like that artful dodger and chicken mayweather, but I'll admit he's one of the greatest defensive fighters ever--notice how he moves and drops his shoulders, letting a lot of punches slide and glance off of him.

Your video challenges haven't  gone viral to P.L yet--or on Youtube?

I can tell you guys know about boxing.  I plan on using my reach advantage to keep him at arm's length.  Since he's shorter he's going to have to come forward at me and I just gotta make him pay every time gets within my reach.

No I don't have any videos on  youtube, I don't really box that much.  Maybe 2 or 3 times a year.  I have a nice set of boxing gloves but it's hard to find people who like to box.  Alot of people say they will but very few will take the time to actually do it.  I found a boxing gym close by but I haven't been able to fit it into my schedule, plus it ain't cheap either.

Body punches take a toll that none except boxing people truly realize--usually a gradual toll, but if anyone in that weight class had a Kevlar torso, it was Marvin Hagler. I have the highest respect for Sugar Ray Leonard also, but----in terms of body punches, he couldn't take what Hagler could. hence their very different styles.

There weren't aren't many periods where non heavy weights garnered international attention, but guys like those two, Thomas 'the hitman' Hearns, and Roberto Duran (before the 'no mas') certainly were world reknown.

There's a lot of talk that the way Mayweather picks his so called opponents and the predictable outcomes, that his PFV money won't be near as sweet as this current PFV cable contract is-a contract soon up for renewal.

When guys like Holyfield can lose it all, or  like Mike Tyson (I know--Don King, etc) can burn through 400 million dollars, I can't see how Mayweather can walk away from at least 300 million dollars that he'd realize in three fights with Pacquiao. Both are pushing 40 y/o and might have 5 or 6 fights left in them....And Mayweather has a FIVE inch reach advantage!

Besides, although Muhammad Ali, who in the nicest way, basically told Mayweather he needs to fight Pacquaio, should have a patent on the term "The Greatest"--unless Mayweather fights Pacquaio--who's already losing 'the legs'--(first thing to go typically) and other skills, Mayweather will never, ever be considered the greatest in any of his 4 weight classes.

In a tip of the hat to the many great fighters from S&C America and Mexico--Argentina's Carlos Monzon, who won 83 fights in a row including 14 championship defenses is easily top 10--maybe top 5 . Although once (only once 'accused')  accused of 'ducking' Colombian (and at the time co champion) Rodrigo Valdez, he went on to beat him in Monte Carlo in an unanimous decision. (he actually fought and beat Valdez--another fighter on many 'greatest lists' twice ) Read THAT, Mayweather! LOL.

Like so many boxers, Monzon had a troubled life. And like Mayweather, he was a woman beater, and while on a weekend furlough  from jail for killing his girlfriend so that he could visit his exwife and family, he died in a car crash. There's a lot more to these two guy's tales, but you'd find it even harder to believe!

Back to boxing--easy to bad mouth Don King, but I think Bob Arum is just as bad, if not worse than King. It's not uncommon over history, but Arum's always pitting fighters in his stable against each other, but that has gone too far for too long.

There's so much (well deserved) bad blood between Arum and his former stable fighter Mayweather, that unless (unlikely) Pacquiao turned coat and fought under De La Hoya's Golden Boy team, cutting Arum out of the money and spot light, the fight/s probably never gonna happen. BTW--Arum managed Mayweather for 10.5 years before Mayweather bought the contract out and Arum was also De La Hoya's manager until Oscar successfully sued Arum and got out.

Pacquiao just signed a new, two year contract w/ Arum!  Arum when asked:

""If he thinks a fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will ever happen:
"We had an offer, a legitimate offer on the table for 180 million dollars and people due to fight and had a big upside of 180 for the two fight camps. That's when he said 55-45 which would've given Mayweather 100 million. (Pacquiao) would've ended up with 80 million and that's still a lot of money right? But Mayweather will not fight him. Now why am I saying that? I'm not saying it to be, I know the guy and I know what his problem is, Mayweather, because we had him for 10 and a half years and his problem was he hated, he never wanted to face a southpaw and a southpaw that can move and punch with his left hand makes Mayweather completely vulnerable. All you have to do was watch him in the (DeMarcus) Corley fight where he didn't realize Corley was one when he made the fight. Corley shook him up and had him in trouble. Why? Because Mayweather is a sensational defensive fighter but that's against an orthodox guy. If he goes against a southpaw he opens himself up. You saw that happen in the Cotto fight because Cotto is a right handed fighter but he's really a southpaw that's converted and Cotto hurt him because he doesn't have a good defense to the left hand."

Boxing is like a wrench, if you tried to straighten it out, it just wouldn't be the same

When I lived in Detroit, I was able to get in (sometimes) and watch fighters, including Thomas Hearns and Milton McCrory train in the original Kronk Gym on McCraw street, I think it was. Awful, nasty facility, but Emanuel Steward was a trainer of the caliber of Ali's legendary cornerman Angelo Dundee. Some of the fighters who trained w/ him included  Wilfred Benítez, Héctor Camacho, Julio César Chávez, Naseem Hamed, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Jermain Taylor.

I can still remember the stink of that place--it was ragged and in a rough part of town too. They had to close it for good when thieves stole all the plumbing pipes for the copper value and repairs would've cost more than the building was worth.

Boxing is like a wrench, if you tried to straighten it out, it just wouldn't be the same
Bob Arum sure ain't helping with his refusal to work with Golden Boy. Back in 2009 we were cheated out of what would have been a fight between the two best fighters of the 2000s in Pacquiao and Mayweather....

I found a boxing gym close by but I haven't been able to fit it into my schedule, plus it ain't cheap either.

I've been looking around Rio for a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Judo or a Capoeira Gym as an alternative to just jogging and lifting weights. The problem is when I walk in these places is there are about 5 guys working out and 30 guys beating the living $hit out of each other. It's about the actual martial art and combat a lot more than fitness in places like that in Brazil. There are no Taebo type places where you can just train as if you're getting ready for a fight. Everyone in those places has UFC aspirations. When I ask the trainers, "Do I have to fight?" Their answer is always, "Weeellll....you don't have to. But everyone ends up in the ring eventually." I've already been hit in the face enough to last me a lifetime. [snip] THAT!

I might join one of these Pilates gyms and work out with all women if I can't find the type of place I'm looking for. The "view" in those places is usually breathtaking.  ;D ;D ;D ;D
