I've seen someone on it on several occasions. It's amazing how open people are to any suggestion after it hits them. I was in Bogota about a year ago partying with this girl at a club and someone had drugged another girl at the bar. She looked like a zombie. At first she seemed completely coherent, walking relatively normal but not all there. You could tell something was wrong. It was like she was in a trance. I can see why it's used as a rape drug because she accepted anything anyone told her. She overheard a valet telling someone else their car had been pulled up and they needed to get in and leave (because everyone was so busy staring at the drugged girl it was causing a scene) and then she tried to get in their car. They brought her a bottle of water and told her to drink but she was looking at the person telling her to drink (who was holding a beer) instead of the person with the water, so she grab the beer and chugged it. After a while, it was completely over for her. Conscious, but her body was limp. No control. Couldn't walk..could barely speak. I really, really felt sorry for her. When I was leaving I overheard one of the girls that worked at the bar saying she thought one of the guys the girl came with put the drugs in her drink! Can't trust anyone there....NO ONE!

""""What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention.

Symptoms of a scopolamine overdose include drowsiness, dizziness, agitation, fever excitability, seizures or convulsions, hallucinations, coma, and death
."""

Ever seen videos of guys who've been into this stuff? They often seem schizophrenic and some of them never get their minds back to 'right'.

If any of this is true, you'd better hope you didn't fry part of your brain and have lasting after effects. Sad, but from your posts and if half of them are true and not false bravado, this does sound like a logical chapter.

Not saying I'm any kind of angel in terms of virtuosity--and I've been around drugs of many types from many angles, but I knew or hope I 'know' anyways--where to draw the line, including the what to do and not do, the where, as well as whom to go or not go with. I just have seen too many friends die or fry their brains and/or end up in jail.

If this happened and you have code protected access to lines of credit or other resources, you'd better check to see if the ice box is empty.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

I don't think it was scopolamine.  It was probably some type of "roofie" pill that can be crushed and dropped into a drink.  But who knows?  I was pretty sick that next day.

And I find it funny that you guys think I made this up.  At least you give me something to laugh about to cheer myself up.  I'm going to see my facebook chica tomorrow, I don't think I'm going to tell her what happened.

I think the element of disbelief coming from some of the posters here is really us asking ourselves, "Can a guy that has already spent time in Colombia and is aware of the risks be this [snip]ing reckless?!! AFTER BEING WARNED SEVERAL TIMES BY SEVERAL DIFFERENT PEOPLE?!!"

I honestly don't see where I did anything especially wreckless.  I was drinking in poblado, just like thousands of other people were doing the same thing at the same time.  I think I was just extremely unlucky to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'm supposed to meet up with this gringo who's friends with the guy I was with.  Hopefully I can track the guy down and maybe he can fill in some of the blanks of what happened that night.  The last thing I remember we were drinking with some asian guys who I think were gringos too.  For all I know everybody at our table could've got drugged.  Jeez this is so bizarre.  I never thought this would happen to me.

Thinking something like that in Colombia is reckless within itself. What exactly makes you think you're immune to something that happens to foreigners everyday in Latin America? Fluent Spanish? Like I said, maybe I'm just paranoid. I just wouldn't do the things you do. Taking your eye off your drink (to the extent you're not even sure if, when or why you were drugged). Late night trips to dark alley ATM's. Spur of the moment excursions with people you hardly know. To each his own I guess...that's just not my style. Like I said, I've never been, but if that area is anywhere like the club districts in other Colombian Cities I've been to along with all the partiers there are dozens of desperate people walking around looking to take advantage of easy targets. Sounds like one of them caught up with you.

Well I finally talked to the gringo guy I was with that night.  He doesn't remember when or how we got separated from each other.  He doesn't remember the asian guys.  He barely remembers stumbling into a taxi to get home.  And after talking to our mutual friend I find out that this same guy has already been robbed 4 or 5 times over the 1 year that he's been living in medellin.

On another note I hung out with my facebook amiga tonight and wow this girl looks better and better each time I see her.  I don't think we'll ever be more than just friends but I do think she'd make a great wife.

Drugs and alcohol tend to do that. Anyways, it sounds like you're having a truly awesome time! ;D

Do you have any idea how many colombians and foreigners are partying in parque lleras on any given friday night?  It's in the thousands.  Simply barhopping around lleras isn't considered extremely dangerous behavior.  I've done it a hundred times with no problem.  I was with a group of about 15 people and I just happened to follow this local expat guy who wanted to show me some "better" bars.  How could I have known that hanging with this guy would increase my chances of getting drugged?

I realize that this website is mainly made up of older, socially awkward guys, who never got out much even when they were younger, so I completely understand your comments and how you think by going out drinking in bars I'm doing some insanely dangerous stuff.  I'm used to living in a more restricted environment.  In medellin I'm like a kid in a candy store.  I just need to acclimate myself a little better to all of this freedom

I know now that getting drugged in colombia isn't a myth.  Now I realize that maybe I need to tone it down a bit.  Trust me I'll never forget how scary that was waking up with my pockets empty, not knowing where I was or how I got there.

I can assure you I'm not one of those guys. If we get the opportunity to meet you'll realize that immediately. I just don't do stupid $hit. I've seen too many bad things happen to people who were thinking just like you.

Hmm, I don't know about that.  I have to wonder, if you're living in rio around all of those gorgeous brazilian chicks, why are you still dating and shacking up with women you're getting from a COLOMBIAN MARRIAGE AGENCY?  You live in brazil and you have to PAY some colombian to hook you up with women to date?  And you're not even old!  Maybe I'm missing something but that has "socially awkward" written all over it.  And when you comment about how highly unsuccessful you are with american women also makes me wonder about you.

I've seen bad things happen to drunk people, get beat up, bang fat chicks, car wrecks, dwi's.  I can handle being drunk perfectly fine.  It's being unknowingly drugged that's brand new to me.  I've never seen it happen to anyone and I've never known one single person firsthand who it's happened to.  It's something I've never been exposed to.

Yes I know to be extra careful when I'm in a sketchy place around sketchy looking people, but I was NOT in a sketchy place NOR was I around any sketchy people.  The sh*t caught me totally off guard.  I lost a couple hundred bucks, a phone, and a watch.  I just have to be that much more careful going forward.

Welp, let me explain. I paid Jamie for the introduction service in 2008. When you pay for that service you can come back as many times as you want and pick as many women as you want to meet on his website. I still go back to Barranquilla because I enjoy the city and have lots of friends there. I actually go there to party just like you're doing. I just don't do dumb $hit like get drugged. Since I paid for the service (because it ain't cheap!), if I see someone on Jamie's site I'm interested in while I'm in town it only takes sending him an email and he'll reach out to them. Last time I was there I met a girl and we dated a while. I can assure you I have no trouble dating gorgeous women here in Rio. I'm just not the kind of guy that hops online and spills out every detail of every conquest. What would be the point?

If you look back at my past posts I've NEVER said I was unsuccessful with American Women. I challenge you to find any post where I said that...PLEASE! I know there aren't any because that isn't true. I said beautiful women in Brazil are a lot quicker to go to bed with you, even when they hardly know you, compared to American women. If you looked back a little further than the time when you were posting under another screen name you'd know that.

Don't you worry buddy. If you can survive long enough you'll be looking at me face to face in a few more weeks. Then you can tell me exactly what you think about the kind of man I am.

Any place that's a club district is sketchy. It doesn't have to be a dark alley or a bad neighborhood. There have been several posters with experience in that area telling you that since you started posting your exploits. You chose to ignore them. If you call everyone that doesn't get drugged, robbed and wakes up on a park bench surrounded by people that thought you were dead awkward and uptight, I'll be that guy all day.

Up until now, the timeline has gone like this.

1. Awesome posts stories of reckless behavior in an area of Colombia other posters are familiar with
2. Posters that are familiar with the area warn him that type of behavior can have bad consequences. For example...being drugged and robbed.
3. Awesome is drugged and robbed.
4. Posters say I told you so.
5. Awesome calls posters socially awkward for warning him to be careful in the first place :o

Does that about sum it up?

No, not exactly.

My original post was about hanging out in some super sketchy places around super sketchy people.  That was literally the last time I hung out in those places, I haven't been back since.  Well I've been back to the hippy park but only in the daytime and not drinking.

THIS time I wasn't in any ghetto strip clubs.  I was in the most upscale part of the city hanging out with gringos.  That in and of itself isn't a recipe for being drugged and robbed.  And yes the membership of this board is mainly older socially awkward guys, it is what it is.

I only screwed up when I let this young, well dressed local expat gringo lead me to some other bars he knew.  I got caught up in the moment and wasn't careful.  I paid the price for not being smart and I'm confident that it won't happen again.  It's not the first time I learned a lesson the hard way.

I'll be there in a little more than a month. You can show me all these "upscale" bars and clubs and I'll show you how I've managed to do ALMOST exactly what you're doing for 6 years in a dozen different countries in Latin America without waking up with empty pockets and no memory. Stay vigilant my friend.

Another thing...and this is good advice for everyone, not just Awesome. Americans on vacation or even that have just moved to Latin America have a very bad habit of trusting resident Americans unconditionally. These mofos can be some of the most scandalous, canniving SOB's on the planet. Rio is full of them! Some of these guys are on the run from the law in the U.S. and have no real means of earning money where they are. Others fell on hard luck and couldn't ever find their way home. Every single one I've met has a different sob story.Regardless, there are plenty of Americans that make a living finding ways to screw over other Americans because they automatically trust them.

It's not just Latin America either. I think it's more common in places where you can 'scrape by' on as little money as possible, but overall, I have to say that a lot of Americans and also some other nation's people, are an embarrassment to their native nation.

If older akward guy is not waking up in a park in Colombia, not knowing where I am , vomiting missing my cell phone and money,a massive headache, (and a dolor de Culu tambien? Ever wonder how you got that ..ja..Ja..), then I''m an older akward guy. I'll stick to rock climbing, high altititude mountaineering and skiing 45 degree powder avalanche slopes (when they are stable), thank you very much!!!

I spend lots of time around lleras (unfortunately) ..most of the party goers have enough common sense to avoid getting in trouble..

Posters that are familiar with the area warn him that type of behavior can have bad consequences. For example...being drugged and robbed.3. Awesome is drugged and robbed.4. Posters say I told you so.5. Awesome calls posters socially awkward for warning him to be careful in the first place

Anybody that hangs around Medellin knows that Poblado is just as "Sketchy" as any other part of Nedellin, at least late at night. Like I said, the Money attracts the bad people like flies to Sh1t.

If you want a safe area, go to Envigado..although I dont know how much of your Shenanigans," La Officina" would tolerate.

Anyway, at least maybe you have learned your lessons and will "tame" your future behavior, even if you wont eat any "humble Pie".
