If you don't mind being off the beaten path a bit also check out Sibuyan, that is where I am going at the end of May
http://www.sibuyan.com/tourism.html
My understanding is there is a constant breeze from the ocean so that helps out some with the heat.

piglett

Thanks PIGLETT,  Ill check that out one of these days....have fun.

And to Ray....whatever!  I'm like so over you, and your friends.

English translation: "I have no intelligent response because I have no intelligence". LOL!

Did anyone notice that when Zulu asked if anyone had built their own house in the Philippines, MR. know-it-all answered "I have done all of that", but then gave absolutely no details or informitive information, just his usual insulting diatribe. Now he admits that he lives in an apartment while living off of his wife's income. So what happened to that house that he "supposedly" built for himself??

What a phoney!

Hey zulukong,

Thanks I really appreciate that!  I have never made my own block. In fact I do little to nothing  ;D ...since I am usually not here during much of the construction. Our friend the carpenter does most of the work and my wife's brother (electrical engineer) and more importantly her mother check up on things and buy materials. I intend to be more involved in all phases in the future since I am now living here. My wife and daughter are visiting Bohol (vacationing and checking out potential lots). She gave me some very positive feedback. I decided to stay home, since I was was still in some pain from my ruptured ear drum (OK it didn't really hurt because I was very well drudged).  ;D But,  I had a bad case of heat exhaustion the other day and decided to stay here and relax, instead of driving around Bohol in a packed van, with a non working air-con. Remember, just because a van or bus in the Philippines says it has "aircon," doesn't mean that it works or that they will use it! If it does work, they will set it to a fridgid 86 degrees. The "aircon" van my wife rented broke down on the way back from the Chocolate Hills...my wife said the driver mentioned that "the steering column broke." I can just picture the Filipino driver throwing the steering wheel and column out the window and continuing down the road! "Ha, ha, ha, who needs to steer driving down the mountains and hills at only 100 kilometers per hours? We can just lean together!" The big problem that I see with that is that most Filipinos seem to have a hard time determining "right" from "left."  ??? When it cools down, I will go to Bohol and take a motorcycle. I am thinking about getting a Yamaha YBR. I am trying to find a 250cc model, as the ones sold locally are 125cc. There are plenty of motorcycles to rent in Bohol, but I prefer my own pampered and well maintained bike. "What missing spokes sir? Those were just extra..not needed!"

Part of my new daily routine that my wife prescribed for me now during the daily brownouts includes going to the mall and sitting in front of the aircon at Jollibee, while eating an ice cream sundae. I also visit a nearby hotel swimming pool for a refreshing dip. San Miguel is optional. Filipina nurses really know how to take care of their patients!  ;D

I was around town today looking at generators. I need around 3000-3500 watts. A Chinese store had a large variety of nice looking generators (although probably not very reliable or durable). The owner tried to convince me that what I really needed was a 10,000 diesel unit, with electric start, and all of the bells and whistles.  I guess he thought that I wanted to power my entire barangay. He obviously didn't know that us cheap Scottish bastards are even cheaper than the Chinese!

Dave

Have you ever seen a Scottish bed? "Move over Roddy, I can still fit 5 more in that closet!"

Dave,

You looking to move to Bohol, or just a vacation spot?  What locations on Bohol are you looking to move too?  What prices are you seeing for lots there?  Do the lots have sewer and electrical and phone/internet already nearby to connect too?

And to Ray....whatever!  I'm like so over you, and your friends.

Hi ByChoice,

Love Ray or hate him, I really don't care...I know that he doesn't! He rubs some people the wrong way, but what he has to say is as good as gold! The way you came here firing both barrels at Ray, I would have to say that you appear to be a hired gun, out to seek vengeance. But for whom...perhaps a former disgruntled poster that uses a type of animal for his handle? You obviously haven't read much of Ray's posts in the archives, but appear to have been "briefed!" You are way off the mark when it comes to Ray and his knowledge and love of the Philippines and his treatment of Filipinas. The former poster and self professed "expert on the Philippines and Filipinas" bases his knowledge on what his wife tells him, not actual experience on the ground in the PI. If someone disagrees with "his" opinions," he accuses them of  attacking his wife...just like you did.   ??? ::) For the record, no "group of friends" ganged up on the former poster and ran him off! He can come back any time he wants! I actually liked the guy (and his wife), but he has somehow twisted things in his mind. I know he has "issues" with me since I agreed with a another former poster (not him) and his treatment of his ho fiancee...in fact the former poster's  wife had a friend ripped of by this very same ho...just ask him!

You are living in the Philippines...do you really have time for all of this crap? Relax and enjoy the scenery!  ;D

Thanks for the kind words Dave!  :-*

And for the record, I think you are a great example of the type of American ex-pats who give credit to America. You learn fast, you respect the laws and traditions of the country you are living in, and you are always here to share your knowledge of Filipino culture and living in the Philippines with the other readers.

For example, when zulu asked a serious question about building a house in the Philippines, you gave a very detailed account of your first-hand experiences in this area, unlike the other arrogant ass who contributed NOTHING to the topic of discussion, but only continued to insult the members here while inflating his own ego.

I have seen his kind too many times before. The ex-pat Americans who publicly bad mouth their country and their former countrymen, while trying to make a living off the backs of the very Americans that they openly despise. And he says he wants to be your friend?? Don’t believe if folks! He is the type who will call you “friend”, slapping you on the back with one hand while his other hand is in your pocket going for your wallet.

Beware of the arrogant ex-pats who continually have to remind us that they live there so they must therefore know it all, while all of the rest of us are ignorant fools compared to themselves. These phonies are so easy to see through for anyone with half a brain.

Listen to the guys like Dave H who don’t have to brag about their knowledge of the Philippines because their words give them all the credibility they need. And Dave isn’t here to take your money.  :D

I don't think so Dave.
That forest dwelling animal is working 60 to 70 hours a week rite now, so I don't think he has much time for games. I normally chat with him about once a week on YM & all is well with him as far as I know. BTW his wife finally passed her driving test & she already took out a trash can at the end of the driveway while trying to back out into the street :D

Thanks Ray! You mean I am not going to be paid? I guess I will have to figure out a way to vote here.  ;D

I actually offered to help a guy once (for free) who was engaged to a lady in our city. What was I thinking?  ;D  He asked for help since his fiancee did a disappearing act a time or two. I had my suspicions, which may have been all wrong. Then he changed his mind about my offer and married the lady. His choice! He would have ignored my findings anyway...better not to get involved!  It has been a few years...I hope everything turned out OK.

piglett

Hey pig,

It was just an idea that popped into my head. I am glad to hear that is not so! Sorry that I suggested it!  I have ADHD, so random thoughts just pop into my mind. I usually take a totally different subject and somehow relate it to the topic being discussed...well at least in my mind.  ;D You can see from my profile pic that my shotgun would probably hit everyone in the room! (coincidence?) ;D

My wife thinks that I am nutz!  ;D  I told her "There is a fine line between genius and insanity."  To which she calmly replied, "Many insane people think they are geniuses." She has been a mental health nurse, so she probably knows what she is talking about!  ::)

When you talk to the other animal, tell him hi and to pop in and give us an update once in a while!

Come to think of it there have been several "animals here over the years...one of the most infamous, being the late Houndog...RIP! Many years ago I  defended his right to post on the Asian Board and couldn't sit down for at least a week...after my azz was finally handed back to me!  (in several balakbayan boxes) :'(

Hey zulu,

Looking to move to Bohol...possibly Panglao Island. My wife looked at a few lots. My main thing is that I want to be near the beach and above seal level! ;) I want to be on one of those 7107 islands (high tide).  I also want to be away from too many foreigners and tourists...so I may have to go a bit further up the coast (preferably east coast). I have Filipino friends suggesting a number of areas. I will take a motorcycle tour when the weather cools off. Electric, most, sewer...you have to dig your own hole.  ;D Here is a website I found on PI homebuilding. He built a very nice house, in a nice area! Very interesting and informative!  Check out the "septic tank" info. http://www.rickcafe.com/buildinghouse.htm
