It is the same here in California, schools and teachers are pressured to do a better job...accountability to have their students perform well on the "SAT1" test. There is an end-run around this requirement for limited English students, they just post thier scores in a seperate catagory away from mainstream kids. Texas has the same problem as California...many kids that speak Spanish at home, and learn English only at school so it is possible that there is a program for your future stepson to catch up.

Sorry Mark, I may sounded like our daughter was hers. She is actually ours. She is only 5 mos. old and not at school age. Though, I have heard kids don't have to repeat their grade when coming from other countries, there is not really tough restrictions for elementary and high school levels, only college education. That may vary from school to school or State to State. Check with your local school.
