Hello everyone:

I just returned from Barranquilla, Columbia.  I was there for about 10 days.  I loved it there.  I went with the Latindreamtours agency.  The tour events were not that great, but there were a good number of women who attended the events.  We had about 6 or 7 guys on this tour and I even got to meet Papi (a regular on this board: hi Pap).

On the second night there, I met a nice woman and we seemed to hit it off.  I talked with her for about two hours.  My spanish is functional but no where near fluent.  We met at the agencies party and after the party, we had dinner at a pizza place.  I must say that the food in BAQ is great!!  I really enjoyed the food there.

I liked this girl a lot, however, I wanted to meet other women.  The next day I scheduled appointments to meet three other ladies.  Believe it or not, all three ladies never showed up for the appointments and I wasted an entire day sitting in the agencies office.  This happened four times during my stay there.  I spent four days sitting in the agencies office meeting no-one.  The ladies, working in the office, were very nice and felt bad for me.  It was not their fault that the women were standing me up.  It was just frustrating to go all the way to Columbia to meet women and then just end up sitting in an office meeting no one.  Well, anyway, I called the first girl I met and spent the rest of my time with her.  She's a great girl and she has a wonderful personality.  On the last day there, I proposed to her.  She said yes.  I told her that I wanted to get to know her better and that this process would take a bit of time.  I'm happy with this special woman and she is indeed special.  She went out of her way to be on time to meet me when we went out.  She was very affectionate and attentive to me whenever we were together, and she made me feel special.  What else could a man want?  On the day I left, she escorted me to the airport and we said our goodbyes.

First, let me offer my sincere congrats....NOW, how long of an engagement period are you two going to have? D, we're wishing you luck but.....you'll need time to see how your lady is around friends & family. You'll need some time for her to learn of life here. The list is long on "time needed" to sort as much out, as possible. We all hope that she is "the one".....but, you'll need to understand, that your work has just begun.....

One no show is not an agencies fault.  Four out of four is incompetence.  The agencies call women you are chosen to meet, tell them about you and then they agree to meet you.

If four out of four women agreed to meet you and then changed their mind the agency is not communicating witht hem properly.

I got engaged after ten days in Cali.  The K-1 process took on a life of its own and my stake became higher with each step (so of like continuing to bet on a losing poker hand because so much of your money is in the pot).  I was filing for divorce three months after we married.

That is why people advise caution.  However, every situation is different and hopefully you have met a woman who wants a good husband more that leaving Colombia.  Buena suerte and thanks for the report.

Dolphin,

I'm glad to hear you met a lady that caught your eye.  I have to ask the question though, would you have proposed to someone you just met here in the States?    Just because you went to a foreign country doesn't mean you have to get engaged.  Take your time, there's no need to place a self imposed expectation of getting hitched on your first trip to Colombia.  It's a huge rookie mistake IMO.     She may be a really sweet lady but get to know her then propose not simply because you have to catch a return flight.

I wish you all the best.

Dolphin,

I like reports like this.  Love the one you are with.  Love her with all your heart.  It was meant for the other women not to show up.  She's the one you were destine to be with from the beginning.

Congratulations.  Don't listen to these guys.  Just because you proposed doesn't mean you have to marry her tomorrow. Just take your time to confirm she's a great woman and try to grow closer day by day.  Once you get that confirmation, which will take a little time, get on with it and file for the visa.

You are not alone anymore.  Maybe I will go to Colombia after all.  It just takes one woman.  I'm glad you had enough sense to recognize that instead of chasing a lot of women.

Dolphin, you are my hero.  You have given me inspiration.

When's the next trip?

We need more stories like this one. Whether I go to Colombia or Peru, I will follow you lead and propose if everything falls in place.  I would have done it in Santo Domingo had things worked out for me.  I just need one more trip somewhere.

Congratulations once again and thanks for having the courage to commit.

good luck bro.  I will be there on the 13th to visit my girl.  I was contemplating proposing also. been about 3 months of 1-2 hour a day talks since we met.  But I am sure just becuase you proposed, does not mean you are gonna marry her the same day, so dont let these other guys get you down.  Do what is right for you.

So what is the lucky lady's name?  How old?  Any children?

And as for BAQ, how was the nightlife?  attend any bars/discos/etc?  how bout weekdays as well?

Thanks man

You said that a good number of ladies attended the events, but the tour events were "not that great". I was just wondering why they weren't so great. I'm talking about the parties, not the agency.  What is most important is that you met a special lady who you plan to marry. Congratulations and best of luck.

Wow, 10 days is pretty gutsy. Why not wait and visit her again? Barranq. is a quick trip from Miami.

Good luck david
