Just send him the link to US State Department travel and warning section so he can turn around and tell us how dangerous the world is.  Gentlemen, danger is a matter of perception and can be greatly distorted.  One year I was vacationing in the Dominican Republic and met two guys just released from the army from Israel.  I told them I was from Los Angeles.  They were like, Oh my god  Los Angeles. That is a dangerous city.  They would never go to LA.  I'm thinking to myself   what are they nuts   They live under the constant threat of things blowing up all the time..... but they were scared of LA.  They told me that Israel wasn't as bad as I had read or seen.   Its a matter of perception.   So to all the men who sit on the fence, No matter what you read there is fun and danger whereever you go.  Only you can decide what your willing to do.

I was born and raised in LA and in my opinion LA is a much more dangerous city than Cali simply because the average criminal is so much better armed than the ones in Cali.

Rationalize it anyway you want. Even if you believe the statistics on murder (that the murder rate is 10 times higher in Colombian than in the US) then the murder rate for Cali would only be about twice as high as the murder rate in LA.

So the question really is "What is more dangerous? Spending two weeks in Cali or two years living in LA?
