The first lady I met arrived at our meeting place on time. I was struck by her appearance. Her picture on the Latin Euro site was unattractive by comparison to her in person. She had long wavy brown hair, caramel colored skin, beautiful brown eyes, and an outstanding figure. She was 30 years old! I thought to myself that this was a woman who would still be hot at 50 years old. Her only serious drawback to her attractiveness was her crooked teeth, which she was fixing with braces. She had received 44 letters so far, all of them nice, meaning that none were crude or sexually explicit. I was the first man to visit her. She remarked that most of the letters had come from Black Americans. She said she had received only 7 or 8 letters from White Americans or Europeans. She expressed surprise that there were so many Blacks in the US.
This revelation lead to a series of questions about how much she knows about the US and where she gets her information from. She surfs the Web a great deal and reads several Portuguese language newspapers. She is very well read on current events. She knew about the NY Times reporter who alleged President Lula was an alcoholic. (By contrast, the Brazilian woman I sat with on my outbound flight did not.) She was following the Iraq and Afghanistan events. However, she was completely ignorant of history outside of Brazil. She knew nothing of the European colonization of North America and Africa. She knew nothing about the American Revolutionary or Civil Wars. She knew nothing about slavery and the slave trade in the US.
She was studying nursing, but didn't like it (too complicated) and was planning to study something else (though she didn't know what yet). She had chosen nursing because there were jobs available in that field. She has a 12 year old daughter, meaning she got pregnant at 17. The father has not been in the picture for many years. She is not eager to have another child. She is afraid of making a mistake with her choice of man and ending up stuck rasing a child alone again. She is very religious, evangelical, and enjoys going to different churches to participate in the sermons. We had met at a food court and had something to drink. She needed to go someplace but wanted to show me around the area. We walked around Boa Vista, the commercial non-tourist part of Recife for 30 minutes or so. She pointed out several churches to me that she had been to and some that had historical significance. They had been built long ago and reflected Portuguese and Dutch architecture. After we said our good-byes, I continued to explore this area more before returning to my hotel and preparing for my evening rendez-vous. I like her a lot as a person, but do not think there is enough compatibility with me for a relationship. I plan to remain friendly with her.
I was to meet the second lady in Old Recife at 8 pm. Due to errors in choosing a bus, I arrived late, about 8:15 or 8:20. She was not around and at 8:30 I called her house. Her mother she had not come home from work yet and may have been delayed at work. I left a message that I was waiting for her. At 9 pm I returned to my hotel. I called her again and was told she was asleep and couldn't come to the phone. I wrote her off as a NO SHOW. I have comne to expect NO SHOWs from younger women. The Salvador NO SHOWs were in the 20's. But this women was 35, the upper limit for my acceptable age range. I was expecting more maturity and think she should have handled the situation differently.
