Check out the Woman's World magazine in any grocery store checkout line. The headlines this month: "New Research Shows Beer and Pizza Help You Live Longer" I knew my body was craving them for a good reason!

Hi Jeff,

That's great news! I knew it too! Unfortunately I found out recently that I'm allergic to wheat, barley, rye and similar grains. I can eat all of the rice I want however. It's a good thing I went Asian. Say...maybe I can make a rice flour pizza and drink Japanese rice beer. ;o))

I guess okonomi-yaki and sake could serve as an acceptable pizza and beer substitute. After all, sake is brewed (like beer) rather than fermented (like wine.) You DO know that the preferred flavoring of okonomi-yaki is tako (octopus) don't you? Nothing like a little octopus pizza! Yum! it puts pepperoni to shame and competes with anchvies in a big way. But --- if you REALLY want a great rice based drink, try shou shin chieu (brewed rice wine from Shouszin (sp?) province in China.) When a girl baby is born, they make it and bury it. Then dig it up when the girl is married. Yowza - aged in dirt! The rice that bites back!

Hi Jeff,

Thanks! I always like trying new things. I don't mind octopus as long as it doesn't stick to the roof of my mouth or crawl back up my esophagus. 8o0

Worse yet, what if it tries to crawl out of your anus?  Perhaps you could blow it out.

If it crawls that far and is still alive, it deserves to live. I will deposit it back in the ocean. ;o))

don't you know that people tend to come down here and read the board when sheet is flying up there at the top?
Yes, if it crawls out of your butt, it deserves to live...unless it's a tapeworm :-)

If you and Tai ever make it to Little Saigon - the biggest concentration of Viet Namese outside of Viet Nam - Mariko and I will join you in a bottle warmed up Shou Shin Chieu to go along with some very authentic food. It's in Westminster, CA in Orange County (remember we went broke a few years back) the county between LA and San Diego along teh Soutehrn California coast. I hear the food in Little Saigon is just like back home for Viet Namese (except we have health inspectors here! Shocked) ) I know this old lady who speaks almost no english has a tiny take out snack shop with tables on the sidewalk. She makes the best imperial rolls. I can't hardly go by the neighborhood without pulling in for a nosh.

... in response to Purpose of the Board, posted by outwest77 on Jul 29, 2001

Hi Outwest,

In my mind, I don't think it was ever proven that Jean sent the emails. All anyone needs to do is go to any club website and leave the "targets" email address. All too obvious and simple to me, especially when it is your club or linked to your site.

People have the right to get mad at others post's. But unless they are being attacked and flammed, it doesn't seem very openminded. My fiancee has never been to Hong Kong, yet I didn't find the post offensive. I just disagreed with parts of the theory. This is where the first bullet of the "war" was actually fired.

I agree, I didn't like the site promotion. Also, posting an email address certainly opens up the door for spam and other forms of harrassment. But on the other hand, I have met a lot of people who only lurk here.

I think disagreements and discussions is what this board is for.  There aren't any immigration experts here so discussion of experiences is a good alternative.  I have changed my mind about lots of things from reading others experiences.  I know I come off pretty stubborn but I am also easy to adjust when I think about it for a while.

I did not like Jean's posts of her site either but it wasn't a problem to me.  I do not think she send the spam either.  I think someone is intentionally trying to cause problems because of incorrect posts here and on Mag-anak.

I didn't mind Carisse's stubborness anymore than she did mine but I didn't want to run her off either.  The only person that ever bugged me here was CC because he didn't use reason or listen to what others posted - he just argued.  His goals were good but just no reason to his actions.  I have seen several times when everyone went off the deep end and drew the wrong conclusions (including me).

Honey wanted me to stop posting here because of CC and I almost did.  But then I decided I had acted according to my principles and was not going to be run off because of an inablility to describe my actions to him or to someone elses satisfaction or because of their opinions of my actions.  As long as I know in my heart I did the best I could do I don't care what others think.

But I can say that I think I understand why a lot of people don't post or stop posting here or just lurk.  Sometimes its just too ridiculous, or you don't have a response or maybe its just not important.  I think once Honey's here I might post occasionally but not with near the frequency I am now, which is already greatly reduced from 2 years ago.

There is a whole group of people at a cafe, in a mall, in Davao I know reads these posts, and Mag-anak's, everyday.  Anna (Paulv's wife) used to hang out there with Lily and Em and Paul - Paul even had his own cybercafe until someone burned it down.  Lots of others.  I have met several people who during their process of immigration spent time in that cafe - probably where Anna met Helen (or maybe the CFO class).  If there is one place like that I bet there are several.  I guess its a smaller world than we think.

Bear,

You are right! It is easy to forget that many people all over the world read this board. I get emails from a few of the "unseen" people. I have found out several people who lurk or seldom post here, know me or my fiancee. It is very small world indeed.

I almost always disagreed with cc too. But one thing you can say about him is he "took a licking and kept on ticking." Maybe he will come back and use the name "Timex." ;o) He always seemed outnumbered, came back for more and I don't recall him ever calling anyone names.
