Anyone have info on phone cards with decent rates for calling cell phones in Colombia??? I have searched the archives and found many cards that have decent rates to call hard-wired phones in Colombia, but the rates I have found for calling cell phones go up to 60+ cents per minute!!! Yikes!!!

Thanks

Hey Wiz,

I've been using the Alegria Latino card and am very happy with it.  For $10 you get 2 hours and 26 minutes to a cell phone and 3 hours to a land phone.  The quality is good although I occasionally get knocked off and have to redial.  There's no connection fee but there is a semi monthly 79 cent charge.

- Customer support: 1-800-691-8438
- 1-minute rounding!
- Card expires 90 days after the first use.
- $.79 semi-monthly maintenance fee applies after 1st call completed.

Thanks guys...

I actually found a website quoting $0.04 a minute with a $1.50 connect charge... That works out to $2.70 for a 30 minute call... I may give them a try...

Here's the URL:

I wound up getting a noblecom prepaid pin instead... The per minute fee is a little higher, but no connection charges... The other companies purchase process is not fully automated either... You make an online purchase, then someone has to send you your pin numbers DURING BUSINESS HOURS... Noblecom called me within 5 minutes of my online purchase to activate my account and provide pins via email... I was sweating it as I had to call my novia last night at a certain time and was trying to get pins to do so... No way was I gonna use Ma Bell at $0.77 per minute...

You guys were right about getting disconnected and having a lousy circuit... I had to call back twice to get a good circuit...

Now that I have at least some time on my pins, I can shop around for best-price...

Thanks again guys...

As noted in one of my other posts, stiphonecard.com just suddenly stopped selling phonecards.  I had been using them for several months but in anticipation of just that happening I always have a backup plan in case I can not get a phone card or the phone card doesn't work for an hour or two (which happens from time to time).   In those instances I use one of those 10-10 numbers.  For instance, WorldxChange (10-15-335) lets me call for 15 cents a minute with a 10 minute minimum call.  Not cheap of course, but better than 70 cents a minute conventional phone companies will charge.  You have to call from your home phone, but that is the only restriction.

There are several companies offering this and you can look for yourself at:

Thanks Bruce...

At this point I have a couple different sets of pins... As I was scurrying around trying to get a card to call last night, I got hung up in the, "pay now and we'll send you your pin numbers during business hours" black hole...

I tried to signup for a dial-around service like 10-15-335 but couldn't find a decent one with people in the office after hours to activate the account... I'll remember this one...

Thanks...

I can tell you from experience that a phone call that isn't disconnected is unusual.  It is normal for me to get disconnected and have to call back 4, 5, even 6 times during a 30 minute phone call.  And trying to call back at least 1 or 2 times I never get connected and still have minutes deducted.  Those connection charges will really add up if you have the same problem and I suspect you will as I have called Colombia with a couple different methods and always have connection problems.

Ya but if you get a connection and then lose it for an unknown reason after one minute, or its a bad connection
etc, your connect charge will eat you alive, you would be better off with a no connection fee low rate.

I use a card called LATINO DIAMANTE and I get about fifty minutes for five dollars.  They are sold in Texas.
