You might want to check skyauctions.com... I got a ticket recently RT Houston / Bogota for $450 plus taxes... Usually around $650... Pretty flexible dates but watch to add-on costs for travel dates on weekends and  for alternate origin airports...

Bought a ticket to Lima that way, 350.00 RT Atlanta to Lima, only had one stop in Miami. I first bid 300 and then 325, rejected those bids but they took the 350 bid. I was bidding around 1 week before I wanted to fly.

I had been under the impression that you could save so much money on priceline, or by booking online, etc, Its total BS

Priceline its non refundable, non changeable, non everything
and they make you agree to buy the ticket BEFORE you know the airline, the route, all of that. You could be flying all over timbuktu with 6 connecting flights to nowhere, and you dont find out until AFTER you agree to purchase the NON REFUNDABLE ticket, Plus even if you do buy one i heard u can easily beat the price,

Also as far as booking online, i tried that with many airlines and the prices are not that great to say the least.

I had always thought Travel agents were an option but i thought since they are on commission they would tend to book more expensive options, but my friend told me otherwise,

I have booked my last two trips to the Phils with a travel agent in california, agent fee of 10 or 20 dollars, and I am very impressed, My last trip to the phils was a 1600 dollar fare trip going united to denver then united to san fran then Cathay Pacific to Honk Kong and Cathay Pacific to Manila .

Needless to say those are not cheap airlines, United is perhaps the most expensive usa airline, and Cathay Pacific is the nicest one flying to Asia. The Fare was 1650 or something like that, My travel agent got it for me for 988 by booking through a consolidator, She can change my reservation in about 1 minute, change the dates, etc, Print the tickets right at her desk, etc etc etc and she knows me and wants my return business, Needless to say, after saving 650dollars on the airfare i was more than happy to pay her 20 dollar fee. I would never ever try to book by myself, she has access to stuff the general public cannot access, Best way to go, and its so nice since when i changed my date of return i called her from manila, she changed the return date in nothing flat,

Anyway hope this helps

Sure no problem, i think my agent specializes in Asia
but in miami or houston i think many agents would specialize in south america.
btw if u change ur return date make sure no change ticket fee by the airline, before you do it.

I've never bought any tickets myself but from what I've been told by others, it's not a good way to go unless you're VERY flexible and have some extra time on your hands. You have no control of your flight times, airlines, etc. Beware...

I just returned from a Bogotá trip using Priceline.  The fare I paid from PDX to BOG was the best I could find at the time I made travel plans.  It's true you have no say on the route but you do have on the amount of layovers.  I went from PDX to Houston then on to BOG.  On the return flight it went through Newark, NJ.  I had a cow when I found out the return flight, until I realized that the actual air time was less in getting home than if I'd gone through Houston because of the long layover there.  I even got my frequent flyer miles this time using Priceline when I confirmed seats with the airline company, something that Priceline says is not eligible.

My suggestion is do your homework on price options and if you are a little flexible see what Priceline will accept.  You can always give a thumbs down if you don't like the price.
