Upon arrival the Spanish killed the small population of indians (approx 1000). Mostly German (after ww2), Italian, Spanish, English. It makes for a very good mix. Cattle is king. They were for many years (until the 50's) one of the 10 ten riches countries (per capita) in the world. They have the stongest banking system in South America. Considered the Switzerland of the America's. Climate is very good. Warm most of the year, low humidity. Winter never goes below 50 degrees and last maybe 1 month. Cost of living is cheap. You don't see the homeless problem you see in the rest of South America. As far as cities it depends on what you like. They have very beautiful old European looking cities.
