How-dee. I had to get out of Brasil to get my freshly-minted student visa stamped, and at the last minute decided to come to Buenos Aires instead of Foz de Iguazú. So far, I have to say it is a rather beautiful city. It reminds me of Barcelona and other European cities.
I’ve been reading a book lately by Erich Fromm, called The Art of Loving, which has as its premise that our acquisitive way of thinking which does us good in business gets in the way of really loving, because we focus on acquiring things of the highest value (beauty, etc.) instead of engaging in the discipline of becoming loving persons. With that little disclaimer out of the way, for all the talk I’ve heard about how beautiful Argentine women are, the reality so far has been a bit of a letdown. Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by Brazil. My theory so far as to why the women of BA have a reputation for being cold is the way the men ogle them. Just today I’ve seen a couple of incidents of a man staring at a halfway pretty woman as she walked by, almost like he was mad-dogging her. Geez, take a picture, buddy, it’ll last longer...
I stopped dating my Brazilian girlfriend a few weeks back. I still think very highly of her, but just couldn’t shake the feeling we weren’t right for each other. Somehow I just don’t have the energy to get into another relationship, who knows why. But as nice as BA is, it’s a reconfirmation that Brasil is a great place for a single guy to be.
With the currency exchange, right now is a great place to visit Argentina, though BA is a bit dangerous. You can’t trust taxi drivers and you have to watch yourself wherever you go. The food is excellent and cheap. It was hard to decide where to eat today, with so many tempting choices. Finally I went to an upscale steakhouse and had dinner for about $5.50 with tip. I think tomorrow I'll take a bus to Córdoba, which is said to be a beautiful city as well, and they have Oktoberfest going on there now. Beer? I’m there! :- ) Then maybe the Mendoza wine country, we’ll play it by ear.
I’d write more, but it’s late and this keyboard is junky. Tchau.

what  are you talking about the girls are fantastistic in Argentina. You have to go to beono Aires in the summer. You'd have to be blind to say otherwise.Truely though they aren't that friendly to me, One man's opion.
But my girl I'd been OK if hadn't been for the cigeret burns on the carpet.

If you can't trust the taxi drivers, how do you get around?

Hi Iswote,

I think what Bueller means is catching a cab from any street corner.  I travel on business in SE Asia, and in places like Manila and Jakarta you hire a cab for a day.  Usually a known cab company has a concession at a your hotel.  Might be a little bit more expensive ($10 of the course of entire day), but worth it.

I'm would imagine (not an absolute) the same applies throughout Latin America.  Besides, these guys usually speak a little English (at least in Asia)and are always happy to talk to you about their city, family, culture...etc  The key is just be polite and respectful.  In the end, just use basic common sense....

Take care,

Mark

Well, I haven't proposed to any yet, but I'll let you know. ;-) Seriously though, the people overall are definitely nicer than Spain. Most women here probably haven't given the matter of marrying a foreigner a thought, but like anywhere it's possible. It's not the first place to look anyway. I am more and more sold on Brasil.

I'm going in that direction. Portugese has a nasal tinge, some spanish it's easier but not easy.SO I think with some language brazil, looks goods. south is too white north too black, better stay centered toward soa poulo, rio.
