My first trip to Cali I stayed at the Latin Love Crystal Palace.  My second day there I took a cab over to Latin Internet to check out the books there and met a couple of guys who invited me out to lunch with them.  We went over to Unicentro and ate in one those little thatched roof restaurants that they have in the middle of the mall.

I remember we ordered the special of the day which turned out to be this platter of ribs, chicken and grilled beefsteak, complemented with veggies salsa style, tortilla, and fried plantain.  The three of us shared one order and none of us walked outta there hungry.

The bill including our leche drinks (a fruit and milk concoction that seems to be very popular in Cali) came to 26K pesos - or around $12.

I've spent upwards of 80K pesos for dinner for two on dates in more upscale places in Cali - of course I usually order un botella de vino tinto ;-)  but you should have no problem finding moderately priced meals in Cali - it's certainly less expensive than in the US.

This is a frequent question and it really depends on the style and kind of food you like to eat.  I was in Cali for 6 weeks in April of this year and I found a street cafe that offered a basic meal for 3,000 pesos including juice.  They basicly offered a different plate every day but it always included soup, some kind of main dish like chicken and rice and juice also.  I ate there a couple days a week for lunch when I wasn't seeing my fiancee.  Now is it a place I'd take a date, hardly but it was fine for a quick healthy meal.  On the other hand, I took a friend to Gregory's steak house on Avenida Sexta and it cost me over 100,000 pesos for a meal that was OK but nothing special.  So it really depends on you but in general I would say restaurants are about 1/3 the price of here.

A little while ago I had a large smoked trout, salad, potatoes and a draught at Estacion Del Barril a little way down the pasillo from Lenos Al Carbon at Chch. $13.000 or $4.60. No tip expected.

Colombiano,

For most of my dates, I would pay between 10.000 to 13.000 per plate. This would include a really decent sized meal with salad, rice, potatoes, carne o pollo, lemonada o refresca, y posiblemente con fruita.

I can remember that I had a date with a Calena of about 31. She was really attractive, had her own business, and lived in one of the better neighborhoods of the city. She was high maintnance. For that date, in USD, I spent $50.00
at a new Italian resturant; then she suggested for us to go to the bar called Dukes, and I paid another $20.00 for drinks.

She was a nice person, but I think she went overboard with her suggestions about where too eat and the bar, she was a smoker, had a kid, liked to go out and spend money, and had way more experience than what I had. So, I decided not to keep up with her. I didn't request her for a cita, she wanted to meet me.

Well, I suggest for you to keep your dates to no more than 40.000 or less. For 40.000 you can go to eat, watch a movie, and maybe desert after that.
