It's funny how all these posters jump on the bandwagon to make remarks about the post ISWOTE posted. Most are negative claiming he's nuts, maybe so.....but at least he's gone to Colombia...that's better then the 90% on this board who will never venture further then typing Colombia on Google.

This board is littered with stories of failed marriages that started with a proposal after 1 date, 1 week, etc. Even the guys here who did that and are still married advise against it. These guys DID have the courage to travel to Colombia, but didn't have very good judgement.

Yes, I had the "courage" to travel to LA, very happy with my Peruvian wife. Proposed after 11 months of dating/getting to know her. Married her a month later.

I agree with you 100%.  I always get a kick out of the marital and relationship advice given.  I think everyone should be required to post how long they knew their ex-American wives before they married and divorced.  I guess you need to know your wife at least 5 days before you propose.  That is hilarious.

If you are an adult you do what you want to do. Marry a person for whatever reason you want. Don't let others sway you in what you want to do.  These people that want to tell you what to do are not the most successful relationship experts in the world.

I have been to Colombia about 10 times in the past couple of years. The great majority of men that I have met are over 40.  Men go there for basically one reason: to get younger and better looking women than they can get here or to get any woman.

Patrick:  How about requiring current photos and certified relationship experience of the past 10 years before you can post along with the blessing of the local bishop.

Finally an Iswote post I agree with.  Bruce you are a  grown man I don't think you are looking for anyones blessing and I certainly believe you weren't expecting the backlash you received.  Bruce I wish you and her all the best.

You don't have to go to Colombia to be qualifed to comment on something that is a very unwise and naive apporach to a relationship with any woman of any culture. Common sense is what is lacking here, not knowledge of any country.

I hope for the best for this fellow, just like I would for the Titanic.

What makes you qualified to comment about a place or the women within, you've never been to or experienced? My point is that nuts or not, the guy is trying to do something positive. Did you ever notice the guys who date or who are married to Colombians never post negative comments It's his life, he's a grown man. Does he really need comments from people who offer nothing, espically from people who don't have the courage to travel to Colombia

I have been to Colombia over 30 times. You are right, he is old enough to do what he wants. Some of us are trying to make him aware of the huge risk he is taking. Guess we shouldn't waste our time.

He is NUTS!!! if he proposed to a girl in two weeks, or two months. would you do that to a girl here in the USA, or for that matter, anywhere else in the world.i saw a lot of stupid men doing the same thing when i was there, and about 80% of them are divorced. the only ones who are still married, are the ones who took their time, met the parents, her friends, and got to know her over time, and i dont mean two weeks or two months. my girlfriend and i have been dating for over a year now, and it took that long to see her true personality, which by the way is very wonderful. to me, these men are despirate, or just very stupid. its just my opinion, but that's what this board is for.

Your opinon stinks. Why should someone model your life. It's not what you would do, therefore it's wrong. Is that what your telling us? You said would you that here in America?. I guess the long time getting to know each other works here in the USA considering the divorce rate is nearing 60%.

What are you, his mother?Huh If you post on here something as lame as proposing in such a short amount of time, expect people to question your judgment and lack of common sence. True, it is MY opinion, and he doesn’t have to listen to it either. Did I ask him to model his life as mine??? I don’t think so.  The divorce rate here in the USA is probably around 50 or 60%, but the divorce rate of men who traveled to Colombia, have no idea what they are doing, and propose to a woman in two weeks, after only a few meetings is even higher. USE COMMON SENCE, if you have some.

Oh boy your on a roll Thud.... Did I strike a nerve with you? If I did...sorry Mudd. While reading your posts it reminds me of a guy who knew so little about so much. Traveling to Colombia....Hmmmmm I'm sure you could describe your adventures to Colombia in three words..."NEVER been there." I'm sure glad you know what your doing. I'd hate for the rest of us who actually made it beyond our computers to realize we've been on the wrong track all these years. All kidding aside I'd like to here about how you came up with the name Mudd? Is that what your past dates stated your name was in their eyes?  Smiley

Talk about striking a nerve.... unlike you, or maybe a lot of computer jocks who never get the guts to travel to a different country, I have been just about everywhere. Germany, France, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Austria, Mexico, and yes, even Colombia, over 10 times. Oh, by the way, I and another American were robbed in broad daylight, by to locals, sticking a pistol to the other guy’s head, so go preach to some other person who never got off his butt and didn’t have the guts to visit Cali.  If you have forgotten, I have a girlfriend in Bogotá. Read my posts, or did you skip that part?Huh. As for the name "mudd" it used to be "muddslinger" which is a slang name we use for the type of work my company does. I just got tired of typing the whole name, and shortened it to mudd. If you don’t like my posts, then don’t read them, and like I said before.... are you his mother?Huh? He is a grown man, if he can’t take a little constructive criticism, then he shouldn’t be on here, and when he posts something as questionable as that last story, he should expect a little.

The Reason i responded is, even though im not pursuing a latina in colombia, my gf is filipina, in manila, i have gone to manila 2 times for a total OF THREE MONTHS, so i feel im "in the club" as far as being a doer, although it did take me a few years to get the courage to go. And, i have not been engaged yet to my gf after 3 months in the phils, so i feel i have room to talk.
