Many guys have expressed interest in taking their novias or new wives to San Andres. Here's a post I lifted off another forum that offers some usefull information:
"BEST HOTEL? I am an American living on SAI, married to a Colombian who WORKED at many of the hotels on SAI. Sort of a different perspective. For beauty, Marazul, but no beach. Aquarium has no beach ATTACHED but a lovely very small and mostly unused beach next door at the Cultural Center...no waves but smooth sand! The folks there are great.....they have internet available there if you need to check your stocks! If you don't want or need 4-5 star treatment, Tres Casitas is next to Lord Pierre, close to everything, inexpensive. SHOULD YOU WANT THE BEST DEAL ON THE ISLAND, the Portobelohotel shares the wonderful beach of the Islaņo. There is no pool, it has like 6 rooms, all AC, cable TV (why would you need it) nothing fancy for an impressive view to Jonhy Cay (insist on your reservation for the ocean view). We just talked with them for a friend. $41.000 pesos (about $15 US dollars) includes your room for 2, with spectacular view, center of the beaches and towntown, AND breakfast and lunch! The manager's name is Carlos, he says they have a web site at www.portobelohotel.com (although I have not been to the site) and their email is "reservations@portobelohotel.com. Fax 578-5125105 and phones 578512-7008, 578-512-9077. Of course you miss all the Luxury hotel atmosphere but if you want to stay for a month!!!!!! Come on down. For lunches you might try the buffet at Las Americas Hotel, 6,000 pesos (about $2.25 US) for a very nice meal. The Sat. night buffet at Sunrise Beach Hotel is worth the $$$ it costs (and last time we were there they only charged us for one since my wife doesn't eat much!). Our preference if you like real Colombian cooking is a small resturant just south of "Coralina" (the environment protection agency) on the inland side. $4.500 pesos for all inclusive lunch....great cooking, but definetely rustic.
No matter what, JUST ENJOY SAN ANDRES ISLAN"
