Next Sunday September 15 is "Dia de Amor" the Colombian version of Valentine's day when lovers exchange gifts.  I am wondering what guys with novias still in Colombia are planning on doing.

Just to be sure, is it Sep 15 or Sep 21?  The text below is from the website of: http://latiendadelasrosas.com/Net/index.asp

"Recuerde que el 21 de septiembre es el día del amor y la amistad!"

Maybe it's a floating holiday and September 21 was the date in 2001???

I would tell you but that would spoil the surprise for my wife.  She also reads this board...

Since you seem to have planned for this day, could you please confirm the actual date of Dia de Amor?  Is it Sunday Sep 15 or the following Saturday Sep 21?  Or some other date?  I noticed LAI is offering a Valentine's day tour, but it doesn't start until Sep 25 so that leaves me even more unsure of the date.

Ouch....I did not know that. I have to get her something for her birthday on September 20 and wasn't sure how I would go about that. I want to send her something pretty; bad but since I am unsure if she would get it, I am sending flowers from one of the address/tour sites that deliver to Colombia. (Anyone have ideas on sending gifts?)

If your lady is in Cartagena, I can recomend a good flower shop. For sending gifts, if you want it there by the 20th, you should have sent it last week.....I've successfuly sent stuff by the US Post Office 3 or 4 times....Express International, or what ever they call their most expensive service. It gets there in about 10-15 days (despite their 3 day promise). Once I sent stuff via Avianca airlines but it arrived late, open, with some of it missing and some of it broken, so they are out as far as I'm concerned. DHL will sent stuff, but they are frightfuly expensive and I've never used them.

Thanks.
She is in Barranquilla. I was thinking one of these prepaid
internet debit card thingys where they can buy anything, or sending the flowers from Sam's site.
69 dollars but I'm thinking he would just have them sent from over there which would take some headache away.

I was wondering if there was a site that sent stuff there.
Something out of Colombia, where I could use my name as the "Bill To:" and her's as the "Ship To:".

I should just send an empty box.
She'll know I was thinkin' about her.
(Ok that was bad)

The friendship/relationship is still new, and I just want to let her know I was thinking of her.

Never tried an internet debit thingy (I think I know what you mean). If you want to send money (but maybe not a good idea at this stage of the relationship, especialy if you have neve met in person) send her a wire money order. Not too far below, a few days ago some of the services and their prices and reliablity were discussed....see the "sending money" and "don't get ripped of by Western Union" threads.

If she has internet (and you can read/write Spanish) you could sent her a nice internet greeting card....try

I think they all have them

You're new here, aren't you? Well, welcome, and good luck.

Thanks again. It's basically, a preloaded debit card.
She can use it online or at a store. I found one that looked good. I'll have to dig out the URL and post it.

Yeah I'm new. I found this board about 3-4 months ago.  After seeing posts I wanted to respond to, and having questions, I decided to join.

I got turned on to Latin women about 6 years ago. When I moved from Florida to Detroit, I thought the thoughts would leave, but I can't shake it. Haha! Now it might be a waste of a move because I can see myself back south with a beautiful latina. One thing though....I turned a lot of guys here on to it.
