I read many bad things about avianca/aces (I beleive this is the same thing right now). I know AA also flies to Colombia (Cali in particular). I am starting to book my flight so would love any suggestions from you guys. It would be out of Seattle area.

Avoid at all cost making a connecting flight in Bogota. I also live on the west coast and I like to take the Continental flight from Houston to Panama City with a conecting flight on COPA (if the price is right). COPA goes directly from Panama City into Cali. They have an agreement with Continental and you can check your bags all the way through to Cali.

I wonder if anyone has had the following experience. I flew
American Airlines from LA-Miami-Cali, and my bags arrived three days later. A small lock was busted open and some clothes were stolen. The suitcase was not wrapped in plastic, and was easily breached. I wonder if the buzzards that work in baggage handling in Miami look for this kind of
opportunity, and set aside this kind of bag. Or, is American
in such bad shape that they cannot perform basic functions with any degree of success.

Blessings to you and your new family.  A long term bachelor will make many adjustments.  The kids will be yours completely with all the same responsibilities as if your own.  You will need to be generous in all areas.  Money is always the hardest.  But little by little a bachelor can adjust.  And there are many blessings that are returned.  Stay on the spiritual path and ask for His Holy Guidance.

I have flown on Aces/Avianca 8 times from Miami to
Cartagena and they are excellent.  They have newer
A320 aircraft, excellent meals, feature films.  No
complaints, no delays ...

I prefer Avianca too.  Great planes, good food and usually on time.  I go 6 - 7 times a year from Miami or New York.  From the West Coast a Panama connection is a better bet.

I'm leaving Saturday.

Agreed, I love to fly Aces if I can afford it. And the asafatas! Another option however is the Continental/Copa combination via Panama. I read AeroRepublica is going to start international flights from a city in Florida, can't remember which but not Miami, to Cali.
