I was talking to my wife who is down in Cali visiting her family.  She was telling me that the día del amor y amistad is actually for two weekends in septiembre.  This weekend and next weekend.  They actually give gifts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  I remarked to her that seemed a little strange and she reminded me that I am a gringo unfamiliar with all of their customs :-).

Anyway she wants to deliver roses for anyone up here that needs the service in Cali.  She did this for a friend of mine and since she is more or less hanging around she thought she could do this service.  Her family has good connections for flowers and she or her mother can deliver them.  18 roses in a vase for $25 delivered.  Later after she returns to the U.S. her mother can also do this if anyone is interested.  

I remember Norm used to do this when he had his agency in Cali and was charging about the same.

Apparently there are going to be two dïas this year.  Traditionally it is the second weekend..  But the merchants are pushing for the 21st because more people have money on the 21st because they do not get paid until the middle of the month (every two weeks).  Apparently it is a little bit of a moving target every year, either the second or third weekend.

My novia said the date was September 14.  But she also said that the date changes from year to year.  Maybe this is why the dates are different.

Taken off a web site in Bogota regarding this day:

Valentine’s Day is coming to Colombia and it will take place on Saturday 21st this month. The only thing that changes is the name ¨Dia de Amor y Amistad¨ but the spirit is the same, a day to express our feeling to the ones we care.

My novia told me the day was on Saturday 14 and they have parties on Friday and Saturday.  She never mentioned anything about two weekends.
