Aaron I already proposed to her and have the ring. The laws have changed now for the better. The majority of the women who come up here, get married on tourist visas. I have talked to various immigration lawyers and they all said it was ok to get married on the tourist visa. I have my own immigration lawyer and he actually is encouraging me to get married on the tourist visa, rather then the K1. Believe it or not, only 2% of the foreign marriages in the U.S. every year come in on the K1 visa, and 80% are on tourist visas. The reason all those websites say not to get married on the tourist visa, is because the majority of them are selling K1 visa kits by sending fear into the guys that have novias with tourist visas. I have done alot of research into this, and trust me if is not as difficult as people make it out to be. As long as you make it a spur of the moment marriage and wait past the 30-60 day rule, my lawyer said there is never a problem. My lawyer also said that out of all the people he deals with who get married on tourist visas, not one has ever been denied a green card. Before you get married, I would encourage you to talk to an immigration lawyer rather then search on the intenet because not all the immigration laws are accurate on the web and many are outdated.

... in response to TOURIST VISA, posted by mck on Jul 3, 2002

What I have heard about marrying a visa of tourism is: 1. the visa of tourism changes it for a fiance visa.... and the fiance visa are a good option for the American  but it doesn't for the women, since she would have to wait for aboutb of a year to be able to receive the green card or  many times to receive the social , she could not study or to go to her country until all her papers are in order that which would take a long time about 2 y.

You are wrong about the Fiance visa.  She can study, work, and go back to her country and visit.  After the K-1 is granted, she applies for a work permit card.  She can get an advanced parole to leave the country.

It all takes form filling, standing in lines and $ but it can be done.

From what I was told from my lawyer and several other lawyers, the green card does take a year but she can get permission to work two months after the marriage and yes she cannot travel outside the U.S. for about 3-4 months but not 2 years. That is an exageration.
