I finally got my novia into an ESL class for 4 hours a day Monday-Friday. I am very very lucky because I live 3 blocks from the high school where she has the class. I also got her a job babysitting for one of my friends who lives four houses down from me. This gives my novia a chance to earn a little extra cash for herself. I am just glad I live in a town where everything is with in walking distance. If I did not, I think she would get bored out of her mind staying at home all day. I think it is very important to keep your wife or novia busy during the day, because the boredom can really seem like an eternity for them while you are at work all day. Another important thing that can really help them enjoy themselves while they are here is get TV in Spanish. If you have Dish Network, you can by a special package deal where you can get thirty channels all in Spanish. I also found a Blockbuster video store by my house, where you can rent movies in Spanish. This also helps kill the boredom. Just a little food for thought. I have tried to make it as comfortable for her as possible, and she really appreciates all I have done for her to make her feel at home. Luckily, I have introduced her also to many of my Mexican friends who are from the same city she is from. She really has not gotten very homesick at all. I also buy 2 $10 phone cards every week so she can talk to her friends for about an hour a day while I am at work. If you do alot of these steps, I really feel it can help eliminate the homesickness and depression they all feel when they first get here.
