Back from another a great Colombia trip. The idea this time was to take advantage of my novia's two and a half week once a year vacation. I decided to take her to the best (and most expensive) of what Colombia has to offer in terms of an idylic island paradise so booked a seven day package to Isla Providencia. We snorkled every day, we hiked, we rented a moto, we climbed El Pico, we ate cangrejo negro from the mountains and pescado with arroz con coco on the beach, we made friends with a tv novela actress from Bogota and a French craftsman who built her a house and we partied to champeta at a disco by the sea. Following that we made a quick trip to the north coast for a couple of days where we visited my friends in Barranquilla then bused over to Cartagena for a day trip so she could see that famous city.

Back in Cali I enjoyed visiting with board contributers Aaron and El Diablo and stopped by Maritza's Amor in Cali, Ricardo's Allcolombiangirls and Luz Amparo's Latin Best to show off my island fotos. All three agencies seemed to be going strong and all had American clients. And small world that it is, on my way home Ray, director of TLC got on my plane in Panama City. He'd just finished a TLC tour there and enlightened me on the business of matchmaking during the flight to Houston.

& San Andres....would you mind telling the expenses of going to either....I'm considering San Andres...I hear that you can get a  5 day "package deal" (similar to the ones going to Las Vegas or Cancun etc.) with round trip air (from Cali), good hotel and 2 meals a day for about $350 per person....did I hear right?

I bought my package at Confenalco in Cali and it was just about $900 for two for 6 nights. More expensive than San Andres because of the additional flight from San Andres to Providencia. It included airfare, lodging and two meals per day. We rented a moto a few days at $9 per day. At one beach restaurant they charged me mil pesos for a beer or less than fifty cents. I can't tell you anything about San Andres. We had to kill a couple of hours there waiting for our puddle jumper and it looked pretty boreing unless you wanted to go shopping for toasters and liquor. I think you can get packages to SA for considerabley less than $350 per person. By the way it's a major tourist destination for Canadians. They have direct charter flights from Toronto and some other cities. There's a site, geocities I think called "Big Juice's San Andres Island" where mostly Canadians exchange island information.
