Just a quick note to let people here know that my fiancee and I were married last week.

We had a nice honeymoon, and are back to doing the paperwork.  Still, it's really nice that we're together to deal with it.

Had a blast.  Swiming in the Amazon, riding horses and water buffalo!  The cabanas were right off the beach and in the morning you could spot wild spider monkeys in the trees and there were parrots and macaws with cliped wings wandering around the complex.  We got to do a boat tour of some of the historic buildings on the island.  Also got to do a tour of a water buffalo farm and see another beach that was surrounded with mangrove trees.  Ate fresh river shrimp and pinapple every day.  We really didn't have to travel that far either. It was about 3 hours by the slow boat and an hour and 40 minutes by the fast boat to get between Belem and Marajo.  It was nice to get out of the city and we came back very happy and refreshed.

Marajo is at the mouth of the Amazon, it is bigger in size than the country of Switzerland.

Here's a link to the hotel, if you're curious.

If you're thinking of coming down here, definately let me know.

I'm planning to scan in the brochure to email off to some friends and I'll send you a copy.  It will be a couple days because I'll need to go to my brother-in-law's to use his scanner.

For 3 days and 2 nights with door to door transportation (van to boat to van to hotel), buffet breakfast and 2 guided tours it was R$450($195US), they have a restaurant but lunch and dinner is not included.  For two, we spent another R$90($39).

To ride a horse or water buffalo is R$10/hour ($4.30US)

Also, people don't tip here.  One exception was when we took a small boat to look at some of the historic buildings.  Our "captain" was the 8 year old son of the real captain.  He drove the boat the entire time, and the guide suggested to give him R$1 (43cents US) each as a tip.  This wasn't directed at us specifically but everyone on the boat.
