Interesting....Are you saying that with this you are no longer subject to the 120 days in the country for any one year law?  Are there any special requirements and can a person just go down to Das in Cali or do you have to go to Bogota?   Thanks for the info....

El D,

You wanna move to Colombia? To answer your question, no, I am not subject to any limitations now. I just tell migracion when I get off the plane how long I'll be in Colombia and they write the time in my passport. If I tell them a year, two years they have to write it in my passport. The first and most important step is the visa which you can get from a consulate while still in the US.

OK I understand, I read real fast through the part where you mentioned the VISA Pensionada which is different than coming in as a tourist like the rest of us do.  No not looking to move to Colombia anytime soon but there was a time two years back where I had to leave Colombia because I was up to 120 days in the calander year.  I think there was a way around it but I was going to need to return soon anyway so I just let it drop.

I think with a VISA Pensionada you have to show sufficient assets to support yourself but I may be thinking of Mexico.

Yes you have to have an income, pension or otherwise of $1500 a month to qualify for the retirement visa. A friend of mine left and returned a couple of weeks later and when he passed through migracion in the airport they told him " Senor you have been in Colombia more than 180 days in one year. You have five days to vacate the country! And you will stay out a minimum of two months." Well not me, not no more!
