Well, I won't share everything that happened on my trip but I'll be more than happy to share my limited knowledge of Mexican women. So, her goes! (Remember Lifers, I've never been to Columbia, the land of plenty)

While at MM I listened to Joanne's conversation with girls calling about the agency. Though I could only hear one side of the conversations, Joanne's responses told me allot. There were questions from, "Is it a whorehouse?" to "What am I wearing in these photos you want to take?"

I talked to several guys who have been to Columbia. I've seen photos from agencies in Columbia. I see a drastic difference in the attitudes of the women.

Mexican women are more "spiritually conservative" than other Latin women. (Again, there are always exceptions). Also, Mexicans in general are big on "saving face". I had it happen to me once, and talked to other guys who had it happen. Many times, if a Mexican woman isn't really interested in meeting you, she just won't show for the meeting. I think to her it's easier for her and you than telling you to your face that she doesn't want to meet you. 99.9% of the women at MM are not desperate to leave Mexico, as they are in Columbia. I think it sets a great foundation for a relationship, IMO. I have heard countless stories of men going to Columbia and marrying a girl 20-30 years younger than they are. Then they're surprised when they're divorced 2 years later. The acceptable age difference in Mexico is less than in Columbia. So, if you are 68 and hoping to marry a 22 year old, don't go to Mexico. From what I could gather from the girls I met, 15 years difference in age is stretching it, but acceptable.

I think Latin women in general are the most family oriented, of the Latin groups. I asked several women about moving to the US (including Renata, Terry's cover-girl for this month. I was the first guy to talk to her when she signed up). If the woman had family in the US, she usually said, "Sure". But if she didn't have family in the US and even some who did, said, "For the right man, absolutely."

Money doesn't seem to be an issue for the Mexican women. Our class system is much different from that of Mexico. If you can support a family, that's enough. Some of the women want to work, or continue their careers. Others want to stay at home and be wives and mothers (Try finding that in the US).

One thing that surprised me was the anticipated family size of virtually all of the women I talked to. The max number of children was 4 ! I asked many women about that, and they said, "The large families (6-12 kids), are primarily in the small town areas. The "city" women realize what it costs (physically and financially) to raise a child. In the rural areas you raise corn and kids.

More later.

... in response to Trip report #2, posted by Goliath on Mar 16, 2002

Good post.  I have spent a lot of time in Mexico and I agree with a lot of what you say.  I have also been to Colombia so I disagree with some of what you say also.  Yes I very much agree that as a rule the average Mexican girl is more conservative than the average Colombian girl in many aspects.  I do not think that the difference is great though.  I do know that most people's views of Mexicans are based on the many illegals here.  Most of these have no education and have never learned how to manage a dollar because they never had one to manage.  The Mexicans encountered in Mexico from an educated background is totally different.  I do not agree totally with the desperation factor you mentioned.  To compare that you first need to compare social classes.  You can't compare the middle class of Mexico to the lower class of Colombia or vice versa.  In Colombia there are many girls with babies out of wedlock.  With this group there may be a certain desperation.  I know I would feel desperate if I were in their shoes.  As far as the age thing goes I agree with your point as far as an initial contact goes.  I have noticed that once a person is better aquainted it is not as much an issue.  Actually I have had several girls in Mexico mention the hangup Americans seem to have with the age difference.

This time next month I will be back in Cali.  I am staying at Latin Women Connection for two weeks.   In June I am helping my friend move back to Mexico.  We will drive down, I will spend a few days and then fly back.  I have a great time every trip and I have even considered retiring there when the time comes and living on the coast close to Mazatlan.  I also really enjoyed my time in Colombia.  Right now I am communicating with a few girls from the LWC agency.  I have to say that these girls I am talking with seem at least as conservative and real as any woman I have met anywhere.  The questions they ask me reflects anything but desperation.  I signed up for the LWC deal were the ladies can contact me.  I received an e-mail a few weeks ago from a single mother with a baby girl.  Her photos are of the most beautiful girl I have met.  In all honesty she is too young for me but I still e-mail several times a day with her.  The reason is that she does not try to force me into an online romance.  She is not in the best situation in the world but she takes a relationship and marriage very serious.  Every e-mail is a very good attempt to know me better.  I offered to pay for her e-mail time and I told her that I did not care if she used it all e-mailing me.  She could not accept that she says.  She said after we meet and if we made a decision to pursue the possibility of a relationship that she could accept help paying for the cyber cafe.  Not every girl in Colombia can wear the label put on them by a view bad apples.  Of course the agency scene has produced some players.  Also some guys get rejected by some girl and he labels her as a player.

I hope you post more about your trip.

you're letting the actions of the ladies you are keeping in contact with, NOT THEIR SITE PICTURE!!! Determine in your mind, their level spirituality & sincerity! Example, you stated that she hasn't tried to force you, into an "on-line" romance. She's not in the best of situations & she has refused "Your" offer to pay for her cyber cafe time! TWO BIG GREEN FLAG FOR ME....is her PATIENCE!!!! And, what she said about, after you guys meeet & if "WE"!!! Ya hear that fellas, she said "WE"!! It's a two-way street in this quest. T-Rob, I'm only against Trolls & Ho-strollers posting. Goliah's observations seem to based soley on some negative experiences. One has to/should look at the bad on BOTH SIDES! Before coming out making blanket statements....

Good going T-Rob....

Yeah she is a jewel I think.  We have some very lengthy and interesting conversations going.  I am talking to another girl many years older than this one, who can only communicate with "baby love" talk.  Now don't get me wrong it is not that I don't like that but there needs to be a little mature converation in there somewhere.  This girl has some very deep views about life, love, and forever.  She didn't just come up with this stuff overnight, saying to me that she does a lot of serious thinking.  She is not expecting a knight on a white horse to come riding through town looking for her.  I am too much older than she is to be thinking like this.  :-)

You're starting off with, both feet in your mouth! You don't insult one, to build up the other, scholar! Using third hand info from other peoples conversations as a source of reference? That's weak, REAL WEAK!!! BTW, IT'S COLOMBIA! The Columbia you spelled is commonly used to refer to the university here in NYC or it's medical center. I believe there is a city that uses the same spelling in S.Carolina & Georgia. Could you be refering to those?

More later, you say? Thanks, but no thanks!

I think from the melodramatic This is my last post, post, someone's real purpose was accomplished for a while.  I imagine that user id will be back before it gets dropped from the board.  You notice that there was no request to Patrick to delete the user id...  There seems to be a real pattern to some kinds of posts.  *poof*  An instant trip report full of little substance but mainly dishing out a multitude of backhanded insults to various targets.  People respond asking for real information or commenting on the obvious lack of need to insult others to make themselves look better.  The poster goes into a frantic process of claiming vast injury but still provides no more information and adds further insults.  The poster melts down and ends with some personal insult, direct or indirect. *poof*  Then amazingly, a "new" poster appears.  I just hope that Patrick's new policy stays and any further action needed is taken.  Hopefully, eventually all the sleeper accounts will be used up.

BTW you East Coast foo,  Columbia is the river that divides Oregon and Washington state, just in case you wanted more information on Columbia, heh.

Hey Pack,

I'm doing great.  It's half-time in the paperwork shuffle, and we have the paperwork in to get a civil marriage here.  It takes 3 to 4 weeks for them to process the paperwork, but we have a date to get married, April 5.  After that we will take a honeymoon then process the paperwork for my visa to be a permanent resident (so I don't run out on my tourist visa) and her visa to enter the US.  They have a consular office here and we should be able to do most of the paperwork through it and then just fly down to Rio for the interview.  Unless we can talk with the consular official here and get them to do it.  I'm just glad that we don't have to fly down for every step in the process, (initial application, first packet, second packet, interview)

Outside of the paperwork shuffle, we are getting along well and our relationship is growing.  Watching a lot of World Cup (Soccer) hype on TV and looking forward to the craziness in June when they have it.  Also, in April there is a "Indian" day, and hopefully there will be some good items to send back to people in the States available.  I'm still aclimating and trying to get settled in, it's been a little strange with an indeterminate timeline and being stuck somewhere between tourist and immigrant (although we plan to return to the US).

Colombus Ohio is going to be renamed "kung yuk Kyo" after the guy in China who really discovered America.

Heard the news this morning.  The Chinese were here 73 years before Columbus...
