OK... just bought a calling card from:

http://www.nobelcom.com

They have special rates to select cities. I bought a card to Sao Paulo for $20. That gives me 15 hours!

You heard right... 15 hours for $20.

Placed the order. Instantly got a confirmation. They tell me that since I am a first time caller, they need to verify my order to prevent fraud. The say they will call within 24 hours.

They called within 15 minutes.

From the time I pressed send to the time I had my PIN number MAYBE 25 minutes passed!

I called Gi in Sao Paulo.

On my end the connection was great. She said I sounded a little far away. SO I spoke up a little. For $.02 a minute... not bad at all...

They have other countries. You guys might want to check it out.

I think that it was $20 well spent.

YMMV

I also tried Nobel.com and agree with the other poster they suck.

What a lot of these phone companies don't tell you is that their is they have a maintenance fee. This can be anywhere from .50 to 1.50 and is charged after your first call.

Then they don't tell you or you don't ask they also have a connection fee.

They also round up your minutes. So when you say you get 15 hours for $20 you need to test that theory.

I have tried about 20 different phone cards over the last six months. The best card I have found to call from Texas to Cali is the TexasPlus card. There is a discount store at Josey Lane and Beltline that sells a $5.00 card for $4.50.  You get 90 minutes for for this.

I use that one too, but if you actualy time it you only get about 70 minutes. What store do you get them at? I've been buying them at the $1.00 store on Midway & Trinity Mills. Texas-No-Connet used to be a good one, but they aren't anymore, started charging a "maintenance fee" and raised the price per minute as well. Best one I ever used was "Hello Colombia", but I can't find them any more.

Also make sure you get the Texas PLUS not just the Texas phone card they do have different rates. Another interesting thing about these phone cards is you have to be in Texas to use them. You can't even use them with a Texas phone number (like a cell) when you are not in Texas. Go figure that one.

The trick to get your 90 minutes is use it all at one time. If you do it over 2 or three times we get anywhere from 70  - 85 minutes.

I buy them at the discount store at Josey Lane and Beltline. The store is on the SouthEast corner in a strip mall. They have about 1000 posters on the door for every part of the world you can think of. It is about 1/2 down before the dollar store.

Well... interesting.

Haven't got my phone bill, so I don't have any idea about sur-charges.

However... since I am ALSO in DFW, I think I may mosey on over to Josey and beltline.

You wouldn't happen to know of a location in the mid-cities area, would you?

i tried nobel, and they "sucked". good luck trying to get through on a friday , or saturday night. also, watch your minutes, because they rack up faster than you will use them, meaning time your calls, because they will short you on your minutes. i switched to Aculink, they are a little more expensive, but i have never had a problem getting through.

I have had problems with Nobel too. To this point, the one thing I can say about all of these international phone cards is that none of them are 100%. There are always going to be times when you can't get through on the first 1 or 2 calls, sometimes the connection is horrible on one end or the other. At least for my calls to my novia in Cali, the card I have been using is called South American Excellence.

http://209.235.17.84/ccsoft/phonecardsprepaid/cardinfo.asp?card=SAEKD

They advertise $10 for 3 hours of talk time with no connection fees. It's not actually 3 hours, but it's still not bad.

Does anyone else have any experience with this card?
