I will be in Cali and need to find a place to stay. I am leaving feb 4th and this will be my first trip. I have been reading this board for a few months but have procastinated finding accomidations.

Patrick sorry if I am using this forum for purposes other than finding a bride but I find your forum very helpful in finding info on Cali. I am fluent in spanish and very honest as I know that I am looking for a vacation and not a bride. Do you think the agency owners will mind me staying at their place as long as I am honest with them and not wanting to meet their girls? It seems that agency accomodations are the best for the budget minded traveler.

Thank you for any info you may provide.

B.T.W. I will be in Cali for three weeks. If anyone will be there at the same time and would like to have a drink let me know. Thank You Jose

Bienvenido Jose -

Here are a couple of recommendations since you indicated you are looking in the $35/day range:

1)  Cora Aparta-Suites
    Av 9N 17N-31
    6678414  Tel

I stayed here with my fiancée (we are now married) and the room is not too bad.  The room was good sized, I believe it had two bathrooms.  It has a full kitchen with breakfast bar and if I recall right, breakfast was included.  A couple of things I did not like was the bed was a queen and was not that comfortable and on the weekends, I recall it was near a disco so it can be a little noisy.  The price is right at $35/night but I believe you have to pay cash versus a credit card for a cheaper rate.. The place is pretty popular as the rooms are usually booked.

Since you speak Spanish, you can call and maybe work out a deal for 3 weeks unless you want to move around a little.  It is located in north Cali.

2)  Hotel Torre de Cali
Av de las Américas No. 18N-26
    6674949 tel
    e-mail: torcali@co12.telecom.com.co

This is a more traditional hotel but I thought the rooms were good for $40/night with breakfast.  You could also maybe bargain for a 3 week stay.  Also in north Cali.

Good luck and enjoy the scenery...

Yeah, la torre de Cali is an excellent choice...what are the odds of two car bombs hitting the same hotel?

If you're not interested in meeting ladies in agencies or using their translators, etc., why pay the overhead associated with an agency?  I have no doubt you can find cheaper or nicer accomodations in a hotel.

But I thought that it was possible to just get a room at the agency without paying the membership fees? Well anyway does anyone know of a good hotel in the $35 dollar range? Hilton thank you for the link but $55 a night is out of my range. I will prefer to party a bit more than spend the money on a basketball court and sauna. Thank you

I paid a bit less than $20 per night the last time I was in Colombia.  That was in Armenia though, not Cali.  Si puedes hablar español bien, debes ir a los hoteles para preguntar el precio.  I'm sure you can do better price-wise than staying at an agency.

Jose,

Hey man....

there's nothing wrong with spending money on a basketball court and sauna(laughing); as long as I'm the one that owns the team, court, and sauna.

But, that's just my kind of thinking.  I think ownership..not borrowship...

Peace,

Hilton

Jose,

If you are interested, and money is not of concern, then try http://www.cali-bedandbreakfast.com/home/

I will be staying at these luxury condos for two reasons:

1) To have total privacy

2) And, so that I can run in and out of any agency I please, even though I have my eye on only one agency that I will concentrate on(focus...focus...)

Peace,

Hilton

Jose,

Send me an e-mail at hcluff@zipmail.com.br and I'll be
glad to answer your questions.  This is my first trip and,
though I speak Portuguese okay, I am a beginner in
Spanish.

Talk to you soon.
