Group,

I very rarely read online newspapers.  Why?  Four reasons: I'm too productive with my software business.  Secondly, most newspapers market negative news, which is not my cup of tea.  Third, I use common sense and observe what's happening around me to determine, by common sense, what is going on, what is hip, what isn't hip, what's common, and what's not common.  And, finally, when I create a product, I know, in advance if what I'm creating, is highly wanted on the internet.  So, therefore, the only time that I will ever read an online or offline newspaper is when I have a press release about our software product within that paper.

I do read alot of trend reports and books in order to see and notice if things start to happen in a small way so that once this happens then I know it's just a matter of time before 'small' turns into huge.

Now, one of the 12 magazines I read each month, and which I recieve each week is JET Magazine; first class rated african-american pocket size magazine.

I was just reading, which, once again, may be old news to some of you, that Colombia, for the first time in 67 years, has a 'Miss Colombia'.

Her name is Alexandra Mendoza.  She's from Choco, Colombia.  She became the first black to win the competition, in which blacks are underrepresented in politics and discriminated against socially and economically.  All previous winners, by observation alone, have been women with light complexions.  Hmmmmmm.....

Anyway, even though 4 out of 10 natives, of Colombia, are black(brown) or mixed race, this young womens win was viewed by many as a major accomplishment.

Things that make you go......hmmmmmm.....

Peace,

Hilton

You guys who don't get off your ass and research Colomobia, and those who don't go, are a waste of time.

Have the balls...and take the time to look into some of these issues for yourselves. How the f---k did you ever make it to adulthood anyway?

to make a man tommi...

One of the ways people research is by asking questions. Did you ask any before you went south? Or did you just jump out plane, with a knife in your mouth like Tarzan?
You recently asked a question about someone's site. And when EL-D offered to help, you gave him a post smack because, he asked for a little more info. Well son, reaching adulthood sometimes requires one, to seek answers from others, to their questions. Being polite & humble doesn't hurt either. This be a man & jump into the fire with gasoline underware approach of yours is the REAL WASTE OF TIME!!! Has this approach brought found you love?

Later....

There are more women down there, JUST AS GOOD LOOKING!!
Hilton, Colombia has it's racial issues, just like everywhere else. It's been discussed here by mostly open minded individuals of all races. IMO, you'll find more inter-racial relationships here, than you will in most of the U.S. No doubt about that fact dawg. I know you're not sleeping on this, but you'll find, that you'll be attracted too and by women of all shades in Cali, just by carrying yourself with the class & confidence you shown here. Talk about your work, family & what your hopes are for the future. Make sure you get the same out of her also. Don't talk about money or what you have material wise. You'll be able to spot the players/sharks. Their game is no stronger, than what you've seen here. In some cases, you'll be saying to yourself...girlfriend, you've got to be kidding me...lol!

Peace...Hoda

p.s. In regards about the money issues. Save that for the lady you feel the strongest about. You'll know, who she is.

Hilton,
Yes,there has been a preference for very light skinned european looking women in this contest in the past. Not only did blacks get excluded but also darker skinned ladies with perhaps more indigenous blood lines.
You can also see the same thing in spanish television,a predominance of light skinned european looking people while most of the audience is not that at all.I think it goes back to the class thing, where the europeans were the elite of society and controled most of the money. The beauty contestants tended to be from the upper class.
There is discrimination in Colombia all right, but probably not so much among the normal class of people. Most people are not at all wealthy, what would be thought lower or working class here.
Looks like they are finally getting around to changing and thats a good sign.A major accomplishment?I guess from where they were coming from.Of course its overdue.

What you say about Colombian television is true of the magazines as well. I read Semana and you hardly ever see what seem to me to be typical see 'em in the street Colombians unless it happens to be an artical on the guerrilla. The media presentations definatly do not seem to represent the population. Remember "Betty la Fea"? A bunch of white guys and gals and one black chic. The only one close to mestizo was the hot wannabe model.

As to the beauty contest I have to say my absolute favorite was Miss Norte de Santander. She is hot and one of the few with "pechonalidad".
