Suppose that you are catholic and your fiance who is living in one of the latin amercican countries (colombia, Brazil, peru...) is also catholic and you want to bring her to USA with a fiance visa.
     After filing the petition with INS, it takes some months for the visa to be issued. If during that waiting period you would like to marry the girl through catholic church in her own country so that when she comes here you can marry through the government, is it possible to do that ?

In that situation, I think you would have to withdraw the petition for a the fiance visa and obtain a spousal visa.

i agree about changing the visa, i imagine you can get a marriage license here as well, and do a civil ceremony
