Holy Crucifixion!!!

Has anyone been in PI and witnessed one of these reenactments of the Crucifixion? Which includes a lot of scourging and so forth, carrying the crosses and some guys even going to the point of being nailed to the cross..I have done a lot of reading about it, but in all my times in PI never was around at Easter to see it..

I was in the Philippines around Easter, but I didn't see anybody being nailed, or even tied, to a cross.

On radio and TV, alot of tunes from "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" were played during intervals.  In between there was alot of sobering, soft instrumental (or light vocal) music was played such as Mantovani, Floyd Cramer, Henry Mancini, and Ray Conniff.

On Holy Thursday, my ex-wife's mother participated in a Calvary procession (perhaps that part was on Friday) and (definitely on Thursday) she participated in a washing of the feet ceremony.

It takes place only in Pampangas region and is quite a spectacle. The whole village, including children go out into the fields where the crucifications take place, there are stands were you can buy candy, soft drinks and eyes - and yes it's for real, including the nailing. Happy Easter everyone!

You're right, this is a yearly affair for the people in San Fernando, Pampanga.  This year, there's a woman and 11 men who will be nailed on a wooden cross as a re-enactment of the passion of Jesus Christ.  A lot of local and foreign tourists go to this place to witness this event.  And of course, as cc has mentioned, there are a lot of refreshments stands making a profit out of this spectacle.
