Wow, good idea to ask! Really, I was informed by my Paraguayan novia a few weeks ago that July 30 was the Dia de Amistad in Paraguay, not to be confused with the Dia de Amor which is February 14. Naturally, this meant I was more or less on the hook to send some small gifts and cards, so I really appreciated the warning.

Here's an idea. Check out the Univision website, or Latinchat website or some of the other hispanic sites to get a complete list of holidays. Mother's Day, for example, is not always the same in every country. Miss THAT one at your own peril!

btw, one tip I have learned from American women is to buy cards BEFORE you actually need them, especially Spanish language cards. Hallmark usually has plenty of Spanish Mother's Day cards around the time of the US Mother's Day, but they will be non-existent at the time of Colombian Mother's Day.

There's something very similar, that serves the same purpose. Unfortunitly, at this time I can not remember the correct name (but it definelty is NOT "valentine", they have never heard of that word) nor the exact date, but it is in September (in fact, they call all of September the "month for lovers"). Hope this helps.

Ahhhhhhh haaaaaaaa! I am planning on returning to Cali on the 14th of Sept to further my persuit of one special lady. Now I understand why she keeps asking me if I am sure that I will return on the 14th. Makes my fantasies run rampant. Wink

Good Man! My lady explained it to me once before, but I had forgotten the actual name and date. Your post is going in my "keep these notes" folder.
