... in response to valentines day, posted by jediknight on Aug 9, 2001Wow, good idea to ask! Really, I was informed by my Paraguayan novia a few weeks ago that July 30 was the Dia de Amistad in Paraguay, not to be confused with the Dia de Amor which is February 14. Naturally, this meant I was more or less on the hook to send some small gifts and cards, so I really appreciated the warning.
Here's an idea. Check out the Univision website, or Latinchat website or some of the other hispanic sites to get a complete list of holidays. Mother's Day, for example, is not always the same in every country. Miss THAT one at your own peril!
btw, one tip I have learned from American women is to buy cards BEFORE you actually need them, especially Spanish language cards. Hallmark usually has plenty of Spanish Mother's Day cards around the time of the US Mother's Day, but they will be non-existent at the time of Colombian Mother's Day.
