The first red flag was when I met her mother at Latin Connections. Vanessa is tall and her mother was a very, short woman. The mother quizzed me and said she wanted the best for her daughter. Upon leaving LC she asked me for 20K pesos for a taxi ride to the airport. I just thought that was strange. My first two trips to Cali Vanessa never asked me for any money.
The wedding was originally set for January. During December she was asked many times by me and the agency to bring her documents so the attorney could draw up the necessary papers. She never brought them. When I arrived in January Vanessa shows up with a bruise on her face. She said her father beat her when he found out about the wedding. She was tearful and all that. Said the wedding would have to be postponed. She said her crazy father had her almost under house arrest.
A couple of times in January she called her father from my apartment. I wasn't on the phone but I could hear a man shouting on the phone. Very angry. V said that was her father and she had to go home. That was probably a set up.
I could recount other stories similar to this that fit into her father being a monster. There were other little things that happened to seem to back up what she was saying. I guess I was too hooked by then not to more carefully examine the facts. And yes, to me she was one of the most appealing women I have been around. I am a very attractive guy. Tall, blond the whole bit. I do not have any trouble getting women. I always used to, used to say that I was the world's biggest skeptic. But not in this case.
I should have checked with her family at their house. I had her address. One day I went there alone and was going to talk with the father. No one was home. I remember going up the door hoping that I would not be met with a shotgun.
I think El Diablo was correct in saying she is a sociopath. My understanding is that is someone who has no conscience. I remember talking to her about the ATM theft when we got to the US I told her that there were cameras at a couple of the ATM locations and the authorities had the picture of the person using my card. That did not faze her at all. She was a cool cucumber.
