... in response to Ruben, a question, posted by JUAN on Jun 7, 2001

I don't know about El Salvador, but I have heard on several occasions from Colombians that they feel that Mexico is essentially at the bottom of the totem pole of all the Latin countries in terms of prestige. When I had my engagement party, my bud Marco (who is Mexican) didn't even get a nibble down there, unless he paid for it.  He couldn't get laid down there for free if he was in a female Colombian jail with a handfull of pardons.

just passing along what I have heard 'in country'....

Later,
Mike

I heard some scuttlebutt to the same effect, however after inquiring into a deeper explanation, it seems "ATTITUDE" was the limiting factor/problem. Not neccesarily country of origin.

Well folks...I got another opinion on this subject...my wifes...seems I was told correctly down there...."Attitude" is the culprit. She says the problem is "crecido", however the worlds worst IHO are the Argentians who she says has all others beat hands down.

I was going to stay away from this hot potato, but OK, here's my two cents worth.

I don't know what most Colombian women think of Mexican men, but my Colombian wife is not attracted to them.  She gets "hit on" by Mexican men here in Texas all the time.  She says even if she was single she would not be interested in Mexican men.  But that may just be because most are blue-collar.

However, she met one Mexican-American here, introduced him to her cousin, and they got married this week.  He is college educated.

Meanwhile, Houndog, you may mean "creido" instead of "crecido", but I'm not sure.  My wife says stuck-up men are "creido", I believe is the word.

And, unfortunately, I have first-hand experience about Argentians.  My ex-wife is from Buenos Aires.  It is said that they are among the most stubborn, argumentative, critical people in the world and if she is any indication....

... in response to Colombians, Mexicans, and Argentinians, posted by DallasSteve on Jun 8, 2001

Yes 'concieted', maybe I spelled the wrong word. My wife got out the dictionary and showed the word to me and in the definition was 'concieted', maybe when I went to post I mispelled the correct word. And yes my wife agree's with yours the Argentinians are the worst hands down....for Mexicans she was giving the so-so hand signals but for Argies she made a face and stuck out her tongue...LOL.

To conclude my thoughts on this subject "ATTITUDE"....Colombiana's don't like Americans with bad attitude problems either..!

I guess I will comment here also.Even though my wife has several goods friends she has made here who are Mexican, she considers some of them to be low class. We were in a restaurant and a group of Mexicans were sitting at a nearby table and she said what they were saying in spanish was very rude and offensive. We went to an outdoor market near here and a bunch of Mexican guys were whooping it up out front and after she walked by she said "stupid Mexicanos".I was surprised because one of her best friends is Mexican.I guess there are all types within any cultural group and some of the from Mexico are offensive to other people who know spanish.
One other comment,I have a friend who had a landscaping business and he said Mexican workers were the best but you had to get people who were new here.(I guess they get like the rest of us after awhile).
Maybe there is a little bit of a latin pecking order here,My wife says Argentines act unbearably supperior.
One Mexican American I know had great luck in Cali and he thought speaking good spanish had helped alot.I didn't see any prejudice when I was there.
Hope I didn't offend anybody,I thought I would give you my Calinas comments.
Also I think we should open the borders a little more.Latins from other countries take jobs here other people don't want to do and we benefit from it.They are contributing to the economy even if they are working underground and not paying taxes.I admire their determination.I would like to do a little exchange student program and exchange some of our welfare cases with people from a poor Mexican village.

I'm going off on a tangent here, but.
I have a cd by the Colombian salsa band Grupo Niche.
It has a song called "Mexico,Mexico". One of the singers does a rap at the end in a Mexican accent. I guess to other Latinos, Mexicans sound "hick". As someone struggling to learn Spanish, I could easily discern the difference. It's actually funny the way the song goes off.
Also, i find it easier to understand "Mexican" spanish.

Juan,
my 2cents; I am Latin-American who has travel to Colombia 3 times and believe me if you go you will be well received.
I have also traveled to Mexico to an event but by far Colombia is my choice for a latin mate.
Buena suerte,

Richard,
I am sorry you had a bad trip and yes there are alot of player girls in Cali, but if I was you I would just try a different city in Colombia.Mexican women, particularly from northern Mexico are just not the same in looks or attitude as the Colombiana's.All latinas are not the same,by far.
However,Mexico is close so check it out if you want.I'm sorry you didn't have a possitive experience with Colombian women to compare to.

Richard,
American Airlines has a flight out of LA that will get you to Cali the same day.
