Author Topic: notorized copy of passport?  (Read 10065 times)

Need some help guys. I've been calling a few notaries in my area and none of them have ever heard of a notorized passport copy. Am I correct in assuming a notorized copy is for the event that my original is lost or stolen? Who should I be talking to?

Dear Sir:

What I did was type an affidavit of truth stating that the photocopy of my passport on the paper was a true and corect copy of my passport.  Then, I had the notary sign under penalty of perjury that he examined my passport and the copy and he determined it is a genuine and valid copy of my passport. Hope this helps.

check with the consulate before leaving.  you may still have problems once you arrive in country since what the consulate says and what happens on the ground is sometimes different.

what the notarized copy is probably best for is facilitating the process of getting a replacement passport in the event the original is lost.

WRONG....WRONG...WRONG...AGAIN...

You DO NOT need a notorized copy to get a replacement Pass Port. The Pass Port is the "official"document registered with the GOV. nothing else is a PP., or Official.

You don't even need a copy to get a replacement if lost or stolen. The copy and BC simply makes it quicker and easier. So that Gov. employees don't have to do additional work verifying Who You Are.

Larry, I think it's good you guys are having your copies notarized, however, very few if any needs that require a real passport will be served by these copies IMO. The only purpose of the copy is in case your PP is lost or stolen, when...not if...when you go to Bogota to the Embassy to obtain a replacement 'real' PP they can compare the copy...with photo and especially the ID # to the files. And then issue you a new real passport, for a fee of course.

This is just me, but I don't think I would try to change money in a bank or exit the country with a copy. Notarized or not. Perhaps it's possible but I've never heard of it. In fact one of the guys that was robbed at LL posted about having to go to Bogota to replace his PP. It's in the archives.

Hello Houndog:

How are you?  You are right about the notarized copy of the passport-it's about worthless for banks and such, but I need it for the judge in Cali, Colombia.
When is your wedding in Houston?  Sorry if you already posted the BIG DAY, but anyway congratulations.
I have only two more pieces of the paperwork and I send it to Cali, Colombia.  It has been an arduous task getting affidavits, notarized this and notarized that, but our women are well worth it!
I do not need to go to houston embassy since Margareth at Latin Encounters said the judge will marry us without an official visa from the embassy so it looks like it might be a while before I venture into your corner of Texas.
I cannot believe how my life has turned since I read your posts a year and a half ago.  You know, hgoundog, I had just shook myself awake from a stupor of depression about
how Ward Cleaver (Kinda like my values about family, wife, etc) could ever satisfy and be satisfied by the Texan women around us.
Sure, there were many pretty women, but they lacked that sparkle, that drive, that passion, that I had looked for.
And now, Houndog-our journey over vast wastelands is almost completed.  we are coming to home country.  The sights are familiar and IT IS GOOD.....
A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU, PETE E., JUN-FAN, DOUG Y, HONDURAN BOB  (I really miss his logic and insights...; HODA, and others whom have educated me and helped me find a truly passionate woman.

Larry Thanks.....I'm humbled by your comments.

Funny I read this post, I just sent a private letter tonight to a friend who was asking for posts after my Big Day. I told him that this has been about empowering guys just like you and he. The empowerment to dream the Big Dream and follow the heart, even though it would be 'outside the box'...outside of the boundries of what we were taught we should do. To dare to venture into the unknown and have faith that we would come out OK. The empowerment to not settle for less than we desire and than we deserve.

We can look around and think of easy ways out, yet for some of us, something inside says that if we dare to risk and take the big leap of faith neccesary that we can find that wonderful woman of our dreams...that will accept and love and cherish us as much as we cherish them. I feel humbled by words like yours that make my participation in helping make believers out of so many guys like yourself that we can live our dreams of finding women that truly appreciate and love us with all their hearts.

This is a grand adventure and a difficult path compared to the one most choose. But in the end we can be proud that we followed our hearts, our dreams, for the grandest reward of all....LOVE.

Take care my friend and God Bless

Houndog's right, but a locally US notarized copy of passport is certainly more official.

Even more official, to have the notarized PP copy authenticated by your local Colombian consulate.

I went with a third option, mind my Ps and Qs, carry nothing, and if there's a problem, tell the cop in spanish to "F" himself and find some guerillas to play with! lol

I'm with you Doug.  I mind my own business and don't carry any ID around with me.  No problems to date but maybe I'm just lucky. (-:
