I just got back from a trip to Cancun, ya, typical tourist vacation spot, but it turned out to be more than just a vacation.
Got there last Sat. April 28,  raining, made it the resort about 4pm, so I looked around the place.  At the concierge desk was a beautiful mexican woman, about 30-35 (I'm 47), long jet black hair pulled back in a pony tail, beautiful smile.  We talked for about 30 min., she told me about where to go, how to go, etc..  No thunderbolts, but I sure could feel some kind of electric shock treatment.  Sunday, a nice day till more rain about 2pm,  so I got cleaned up and guess where I went?  Right, we talked about an hour, she is 32, single mom, good english, smart, has her own car what a sweet woman.  She showed me pictures of her daughter, I showed her pictures of mine.  Her goal is to get better positions in the resort, to do that she said she needed better english.  She is working on it. She got busy with work so I had to leave, I definitly saw dinner with her in the near future.
I went to La Isla Mall that night on her recommendation.  Not many gringos there, many middle class mexican families, beautiful senoritas
behind every sales desk.  I think the shop owners try to hire the most attractive women they can for their sales help.  With my limited spanish I spoke with as many as possible, they were all friendly, good conversation, especially if mentioned sprimg break that just ended.
More to follow since this is getting long, the reason for this post is I received a wonderful education on how beautiful mexican people and the women are.  I made more mexican friends on this trip than americans.  Like they say here, if you don't go, you will never know.  I saw too many fat, loud, rude, stupid americans showing their @ss than you would believe.
Next post...dinner!

Ain't it true about Americans? When I'm traveling abroad whether in LA or the far East and am approached by the usual loud rude, stupid Americans usually dressed completely differently than the locals, I just cock my head and shrug my shoulders. They usually assume I don't speak English and move on.

Great post, What agency did you use?(only kidding)lol sounds like you met some nice ladies, just goes to show what a few words of spanish and respect can get you and I know what you mean by the loud rude tourists, the resort areas in Mex are like a cross between disneyland and a rave, I tend to hang mostly inland with the locals who avoid the rude tourists scene, and those Mayan morenas of the Yucatan are beautiful arent they? like lots of latinas many are interested in marriage but not all are interested in leaving! the more inland you go the better it gets! I look forward to your next post! Best regards!      ................Sancho

Yoy are right Sancho, the Mayan morenas are beautiful.  I became good friends with two waitresses at a restaurant bar across the street from my hotel.  I went there every afternoon for happy hour and a few nights had dinner at the bar.  By the end of the week, if they were not busy(usually not), they would sit with me and talk for a while.  They gave me nice tips on local restaurants the locals went to eat.  The bartenders too, nice guys, the last night I was there, I walked in to a resounding "Hola, amigo", I felt like Norm at Cheers.  I had just learned the spanish for
"this is my last night in Cancun" so after I said this to them, they each came over to my seat one at a time to shake my hand and say goodby.  Like I said above, I made more good mexican friends than american ones.
Let me know where you go in the interior, I believe Mexico may be as far south as I go.
