On my last trip to the phils, i was in the process of transferring to manila from the provinces with my gf, moved to a hotel in mabini for the last few days before i left, so finding clothes to wear etc was getting confusing with all the suitcases,

I had a  small pile of dirty clothes, when i packed my suitcase but i knew by the folded ones, etc, which was which, so no problem.

when i tried to look in my suitcase for some clean clothes, i could not distinguish what was what,

My gf had dutifully , neatly folded all my dirty clothes and carfully placed them in the suitcase,  much to my dismay and laughter.....

Hon how am i going to find which is clean and which is dirty? .........Oh sory . she says, ........had to use the smell test.

Another funny story........went on a walk in Rizal park the night before i left, about midnight, since we had been walking by PICC near that area and eaten dinner. I was amazed to see no less than 1000 people sleeping in the park.....Hon, i said, wow, i have never seen that many homeless in the park before, In the USA we have homeless shelters...amazing.

No, she said, they are not homeless..........Maybe  some of them has a job, but they dont have a house.......so they are just sleeping over there.
HON, thats  homeless.......................i exclaimed. LOL

The phils is never boring,

Hi Outwest,
Your right Philippines is never boring.
An hour before our plane depart from philippines my mother in law call my husband, then ask him if I have cold feet after hanging the phone he tell me like this "My mom want's to know if your having cold feet? I touch my feet and say to him to tell his mom that my feet is warm.My husband laugh and laugh  almost made him puke so as his parents when he told them.

... you said you stayed in Mabini... where is your girl from? I taveled through Mabini from Davao to Mati many times. I was just wondering because I thought Mabini was a rather small place and didn't really have any hotels.... or maybe I am thinking of Maco(?)

OutWest,
You are taking entirely too many clothes for the Philippines!  You only need 2 pairs of pants, 5 pairs of socks, underwear and shirts.  In the words of Horace Greely, "Go Light Young Man!!"  LOL  Besides being easier to carry, it makes the smell test even easier.  Smiley  Man, after my first trip of dragging two large bags on bus after bus and in jeepnies and on tops of tricycles, I learned to go light and now if it won't fit in one small athletic bag, it stays here.

Yeah, you do see things there that are wayyyyyy out of the norm for the US.  There's always something to keep you looking..............besides the thousands of beautiful women, I mean.   Wink

Yeah, I know you stayed much longer and couldn't make it with so little stuff.   I think I have pushed it to the limit myself on the stuff vs length of trip ratio.  The longest I have stayed was 24 days when we got married.  I took practically nothing. Smiley   Melly washed my clothes so I was able to make it with so little.

A guy staying for a long time on a 1st trip and visiting several women in remote areas also might find it very hard to handle laundry.  Emphasize the difficulty of staying in a remote place where he had no access to a way to do washing.   Asking a penpal to wash your underwear on your 1st trip is a bit much.  LOL   Of course if you stay in a hotel, you can always get some sort of laundry done there. The place I stayed while visiting Melly was a small privately owned boarding house and there was running water only for about an hour in the very early morning.  There are no hotels at all there.

Now when you travel back with your soon to be wife....forget the traveling light days!  It's all over then.   A 90 lb Filipina has no fear whatsoever of starting around the world with 150 lbs of luggage!  You have to start an intense work out plan months ahead of the trip just to handle the boxes she will want to take.  LOL

LOL, when my gf first came to see me on my most recent trip, she brought her small rolling carry on, we moved around a lot from manila to northern luzon as i was on more business than pleasure trip with my export purchases taking us all over the place, The first two trips i took i did not buy much for her or me , but this trip i bought both of us a lot of clothes, since SM department store has such good prices and she had no tennis shoes, she had like one pair of shorts, and like three shirts, well maybe she had more than that but it seemed like she always wore the same clothes,

By the time i left, when she packed her suitcase to leave back to manila to go back to the boarding house, she had about 3 times as much stuff as would fit in her small suitcase, I had to go buy a HUGE suitcase for her, and she stuffed that, and her small carryon, barely fitting it after it was squashed shut, But the clothes there are so bargain priced, compared to here, a new wardrobe i bet was not more than about 150 bucks, It was not my intention to buy her so much stuff, it just seems to have accumulated.
Now she looks like an american girl walking down the street with her high top tennis shoes, etc, i think the stares we get are hilarious , they look her up and down, then do the same to me,

Yup the phils is a great place, as far as when i will be taking the plunge i am not sure, we will see after my next trip, i plan hopefully to stay 90 days, all summer, cross my fingers,
Thanks for the funny stories.
