One of the interesting experiences of the trip was, one day i was riding close to the old clark airforce base on the motorcycle i rented, we stated in pampanga for a while, since i was buying some custom leather goods for export, anyway, the policeman wayves us over, i mean i was going like 10 miiles an hour, and no helmet me or my gf on this scooter-motorcycle i rented........a bit embarrassing considering some of the big harleys i saw there......

Anyway he waves us over, ......where is your helmet my friend.....
oh, its back at the hotel i said, .....he proceeds to confiscate my drivers license.......so we go back to the hotel asap get our helmets, go back to the police station, the guy and his sargeant proceed to question me, not menacingly, more like some guy i met playing pool or in a bar, where are you from why are you here, is this your wife, how many trips have you made to the phils, this year, etc, etc, I answer politely, .....what do you think of our women? he says, .....I heard american women dont make good wifes like the filipina women? is the true? he says............the filipina women are always caring, and friendly and supporting of the man, right?.......I glance at my gf.........smiling at her and then look back at the police sargeant.... Sometimes!!.....i said.....,!. This brings a barrage of laughter and smiles from the police.

So we continue to the task at hand,,,,,,,,,,,,Hmm, he says, simply pay a 350p fine and go to a seminar downtown and then in one week you can have your license back., how does that sound? he says........Not good , i said, i am not in town that long, and i dont like seminars.
I hand the Guy 500p and say .....Look, I dont want to go to the seminar and all that, You keep this, no change, and As long as i can get my license back and have no problems, i will be happy,
YES SIR, VERY GOOD, SIR, MY FRIEND, he says, IF EVERY ANY TROUBLE in town, you give me a call, here is my business Card, he says,

LOL, Whoever said the phils is not a laugh a minute.

Hi Outwest.

Welcome back!  I'm happy to hear that you had a Great time! Service with a smile...and a P500 note. ;o))) You get a lot more for your money in the Philippines! The cops are unfriendly and never smile here. Keep that trip report coming!!!

... in response to Very Funny!, posted by Dave H on Mar 7, 2003

Hey Dave, ya, the phills is a laugh a minute, I have never felt so welcome as I do there, always someone to take care of any of your needs, there. I thought it was funny, one time we were in the jeepney in manila, or baguio, and the driver reaches out, buys a cigarette(1) from the street vendor, the street vendor takes the 2 pesos or watever it was, quickly reaches over and lights the drivers cigarette, all while the driver is proceeding to pull away,
That place never ceases to amaze me, I will have to update myself on some of the board members , since i have not posted much lately and see who is married, engaged etc and where they live, etc, thanks again for the wb
