I met a wonderful girl online in the yahoo personals.  Has anyone dated: Svetlana Shevardnadze?

Here's a pretty good link for info on the place.

But seriously, has anyone ever been there before ?

You have so many beautiful girls in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries in the FSU that are difficult but fairly safe.  Why go to a place that is much more dangerous with less beautiful women to choose from?

I have been to several Eastern European countries (Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria and Belarus) and the farthest East I have been is Samara, in Russia; but I would draw the line at Georgia. If you don't know what I am talking about, I suggest you check the map to see how close it is to Chechnya. Then check out the Australian travel advice on http://www.dfat.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/Georgia. Terrorists in the Caucasus region are big on kidnapping to raise funds, for example 3 British engineers who disappeared a couple of years back and were later murdered (admittedly they were working in Chechnya itself).

I'm not saying don't go, I'm just saying do your homework, leave nothing to chance and watch your back. That includes any arrangements your correspondent makes for your arrival.

And if you do go, don't forget to post a trip report!!! All the best!

The US has sent advisors to the region to try to reduce the terrorist problem.  The US has advisors all over that part of the world doing stuff like that.

I met a girl from Georgia on my visit to Latvia.  She was a cook and she said she would not be allowed to have a job like that in Georgia.  I take it they don't let women do certain jobs there.
