We are leaving for Odessa next week and I would like some suggestions from some fellow Americans on places to go, especially restaraunts.  We have a child, so we are on a budget, and my wife has no idea where the good, reasonably priced restaraunts are.  If you have price ranges and addresses, please post them.  Thanks a lot!

Red Lobster, no I'm not joking, this place is a restaraunt/bar apparently owned and ran by a former sea captain. I haven't been there in the past two years, but the food was always good, fresh and the prices reasonable. I still remember the last thing I ate there; it was wild mushrooms saute'd in white wine sauce served inside crepes with a side salad (or grass, for those who don't know, "grass" is one of those ism's often used to describe anything green and leafy, cooked or otherwise) and a glass of Ukrainian white wine. The name---well I suppose that comes from the dried/petrified lobsters in a fishing net hung from the ceiling. Sorry, I don't remember the street address, but any cab driver should know where it's at. There a lot of little family owned "hole in the wall cafe's in Odessa, I had my first dish of Siberian pelmeni (sp?) in one of these places-actually a cellar under a apartment building. I love that stuff, but I always taste it for to or three days afterward.

Did she actually live in Odessa or just the area around it?

regards,

Lynn

No, she lived right in Odessa, but I guess she didn't eat out much!

This is not exactly the optimum time of the year to visit Odessa. The last time I was there in Oct./Nov. it varied from 65F at night down to the upper 20's the next night, with a strong wind off the plains that would cut right thru you. Make sure you carry proper clothes unless you plan on buying them there.

It's not a common thing to "eat out" there for locals anyway, unless of course one would be fortunate enough to have a job that included entertaining business clientele. As I learned on my first encounter with a RW back in "91", dinner out is more often than not a evening event, "the" evening event.

When I travel, I rarely eat out more than once a day usually dinner. I usually hit the market first thing and stock up.

Does your wife cook?
