... in response to Going to fill out paperwork for k1 but, posted by dexion on Jul 29, 2002If you look at the INS site, they tell you what you NEED.
As I read it, this is what they ask for:
1. Proof you are a United States Citizen.
2. Intent to Marry within 90 days. (This can be a letter saying that you have met in person, and that it is your intent to marry as soon as possible, and then sign it. It should be in both your fiance's native language, and English, with the standard translation certification at the bottom
3. Evidence that you have met. (photos, the lease for the apartment or hotel bill, plane ticket receipts, etc.)
4. Copies of all divorce decrees.
5. ONE ADIT photo of both of you. (plus one for any children).
6. the G-325A Biographical form.
You can just send this off, and hope for the best, certainly.
There is a school of thought that says you should gather more than you need.
Here is the thinking:
First off, the INS may ask you for more information. It is in their power to do so. The request will go to you, you will then have to get this information, send it back to them, and this all takes time.
If you have it all up front, then they will not have to ask for it, and it will save processing time.
Also, there is a theory (and I don' tknow if it is true, perhaps someone who has done it can attest) that if you have shown you have everything needed for the exit interview, that you can ask them to expedite the interview.
(There are two waiting periods: First the INS here must process your request, then you must wait for the consulate overseas to set the exit interview date...)
That is why many guys on here spend all of the time getting things together prior to sending off for the initial I-129.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, then send off what the INS asks for, and wait for them to ask for more. There is a chance that they won't ask for anything more... and then you'll be home free.
However, bear in mind that all of the things that the guys are talking about getting for the I-129F, you MAY also need for your interview. Although, from reading the board, it seems that if you go there to be with your fiance as she goes for the interview that they are not nearly as stringent on what they ask to see.
So, you are better off being over-prepared, really...
