I stumbled accross this site and thought I would share it.  It's got short descriptions of some the old churches in Kiev that have been torn down over time - mostly during Soviet times.

Funny you should post this... I am preparing my next installment now, and in it, we toured the Church of the Assumption, which was destroyed during the Nazis push in WW II. Actually, the feeling is that it was probably actually destroyed by Ukraine/Russian forces to keep the Nazis from gaining a stronghold in Kiev...
