Yeah - it's pretty serious here right now. Over the weekend, we were in Vail and learned about a coal seam West of us that had caught fire and closed down Interstate 70 in both directions for a couple of days.

Now this fire to the South of us (was about 40 miles, but it's creeping closer) that has sullied the air and made visibility unbelievably bad - not to mention threatening thousands of homes and tens of thousands of residents.

It's bad.

Hey Wild Bill - finally broke down and upgraded the digital camera. Moved from a Kodak DC 260 (pretty good 3 years ago) to a Canon G2. What a difference! Still learning how to use the crazy thing. There are just way too many buttons and switches --smile--.

Also went with one of the new Canon S9000 photo printers. I have yet to receive it, but I am told it delivers pretty spectacular results.

I am going on technology overload --smile--.

Dan,
I hope everything works out for you regarding the AOS and the fire.  I am in the market for a photo printer.  Can you tell me what the cost of the Cannon S9000?

I have had an Epson photo printer for a few years, and it produces excellent results when you use photo paper.

In fact, the picture I used for my Visa both to Russia and Ukraine was printed on it!

(Although, the Ukraine Visa didn't really need it, they asked for it, anyway...)

That the Canon S900/S9000 are the class of the available photo printers at the moment. Better than the Epsons by some amount - though that is expected to change once again with the introduction of the Epson 2200 - whenever that is.

Well,

I'm definitely getting a larger printer next time out. Now you can get one that prints an 11 X 17 for about $500.

I'm saving money right now, aticipating buying three plane tickets from Warsaw to Texas soon... but ater that, I'm getting a printer that has a larger output.

I like the Epson there.

ALthough the advantage of the HP large format printer is that the ink cartridges can be replaced individually, which might save some money in the long run...

If you bought the $125 model printer.  Of course, the whole idea is to keep you buying $30 ink cartridges.

The Epson 1270 that I have allows me to print to panoramic 8.5 x 23.5 (Epson paper number "S041145")

I've also got a matboard cutter but stores like Hobby Lobby will cut yours matboard to your specs.

I print a lot of 11x14 pictures.

Now, Dan what you now need to do is Buy a 256MB CF card for your camera and shoot in a no compression mode for better picture quality.

I use a number of different inkjet printers and if you're looking for good deals on cartridges and aren't too discriminating in looking for "perfect.. absolutely perfect", check out 4yourprinter.com

I've been buying all of my epson cartridges from them for the last year and they're unbelieveably cheap, and the performance is great.  They ship by priority mail and arrival time is less than a week.  Also, every one of the cartridges that I receive are NEW, not recycled.  They just don't have the epson or canon logo on them.

Print results on photo paper are superb, and I can't tell the difference in side by sides with factory originals and these replacements.

Just a thought to pass along anyway.

That is the capability and price of the Canon S9000 at buy.com.

A week or so ago, Dell had a misprice on their website and it was possible to buy the S9000 for $309 - but that didn't last long. May find a few of those finding their way onto E-Bay real soon though --smile--.

I'd steer clear of the HP's - they seem to be more oriented toward business graphics and not good for photo quality. Epson and Canon are the acknowledged leaders in the photo printer field. The new Epson 2200 will be large format and use dye pigment inks. Supposedly, this will raise the standard for inkjet photo printers.
