that from personal experience, or just hearsay?  Unless someone on this list has actually had a personal check rejected (not just told to send in a money order, but actually had a check rejected), then I don't believe this for one minute.

I don't know of a single government entity that doesn't take personal checks...after all, there is PLENTY of time for them to clear Smiley

And yes, I have the personal experience of the INS in Denver refusing to accept my personal check - on more than one occasion.

Anything else I need to say to convince you?!?

sorry snow, someone is pulling your leg.

Cashiers checks or money order ONLY.

You can have your friend call me collect, 214 878 9260. I would like to talk with him about this. It's a free call.

They took my person check for the I-129F petition. Made it out to Immigration and Naturalization Service for $110. They cashed it about 5 days after they sent me the letter saying they recieved my petition. The check clearned and it came with my other checks from my bank. I have the actual check now right in front of me. It was endorsed with type stating the funds from this check are to be deposited into the US Treasury.

I would say the Nebraska Service Center (the one I use) accept personal checks.

They have, and enforce, local policies on payment matters.

It is true that you can send personal checks to the 4 regional INS service centers. Individual local field offices are an entirely different matter and are NOT - repeat NOT - universal in their acceptance of personal checks.

Type or print legibly in ink.
A. Pay by check or money in the exact amount. Make the check
or money order payable to "Immigration and Naturalization
Service," unless:

(modified for humor sake)

 1.  I'm having a bad day, and you're having a good one, in which case you should forget it.

(couldn't resist...).
