I just cannot wait to see your other talents Oscar. I mean, clearly straight-forward and substantive information is not among your contributions - so the levity of a little entertainment at your expense is, I suppose, better then nothing.

See Ya around Oscar. You've resurrected my interest in this board. Congratulations! ROFLMAO

I really am having a hard time believing you ARE married at all Dan, not with your spending all day and night here like this.. LOL!  I mean, who are you trying to fool??

And when you get around to posting any information that is of any use to anyone at all here besides lining their bird cages with it, we will let you know...
I suggest you do NOT hold your breath! LOL!!

A bit of advice- next time, just try to argue points rather than personally attacking people in a feeble attempt to elevate your grossly anorexic self-esteem.  When you lose a point, you should just let it go rather than embarrassing yourself further, like tonight..

Have a nice evening (what is left of it) with your... (wife?).

Could not mean any less to me - other than for the entertainment value they offer.

As for my wife - well, we do just fine (thank you) and I assure you it is unnecessary for you to worry about her well-being. Many from the board have met us and know the reality and she is quite well taken care of - and vice versa.

As for information validity and veracity - yes, let's allow the board to judge for themselves - as I'm sure most have already done.

"Losing" points - well that deserves one of your famous LOL's - or maybe another just for good measure - LOL. Golly - that's fun. LOL

Oh - and thanks for the advice Oscar. It means ever so much to me. Couldn't you tell?

In closing - please don't flatter yourself with the notion that my engaging in a bit of toomfoolery with you requires any time at all. The likes of you are were wisps of distraction.

See Ya Around . . .

... in response to Don't Look Now Oscar, But Your Beliefs ...., posted by Dan on Jun 10, 2002

and hopefully this wonderful thread has come to an end.

No sense in replying back Dan or Oscar, the thread should just die here.

Hopefully what we all learned from this thread was that the four major INS service centers all except personal checks, and a majority of the smaller INS local offices accept personal checks BUT not all of them. Most would be wise to check with there local service center and see if they do accept personal checks, or do you have to have certified funds.

That is all I said myself to set Dan the maytag man off, that yes, the INS does accept personal checks, certainly at all the Service Centers.  I even copied the statement from their web site stating as much!  But not good enough for Dan, the guy goes Postal on me! LOL!

I am sorry Snowwego, I don't know what I was thinking, in my mind I am thinking Russian and Ukraine consulate. I have been dealing with them a lot lately with regards to visa's and they will only accept cashiers checks and money orders and I read your inquiry on INS but I am thinking Consulate General. My mistake and I apoligize.

You are correct in that the INS office will accept personal checks as they accepted all of mine.

... in response to INS DOES accept personal checks!, posted by Jack on Jun 6, 2002

When you refer to the INS, you are referring to this huge amorphous indistinct many-tentacled octopus.

While the INS Service Centers do, indeed, accept personal checks - the local field offices (such as the INS office here in Denver) are free to implement local policies for type of payment. Denver - most certainly - does NOT accept personal checks from anyone. The number of people I have seen turned away from the windows - some in tears of frustration from waiting for hours only to be told they can not conclude their business that day - is staggering.

It is owed the the fact that the documents nearly all say it is fine to pay with personal check - but in Denver (at least) - only money orders are accepted. Not a personal check and not cash.

But Dan is right, each field office has it's own rules to play by. Be careful taking advice on the local office practices as they all vary (greatly) from one to another.

... in response to what kind of money, posted by snowwego on Jun 5, 2002

A friend of my father who works at the INS office in the NY area as a supervisor, and who worked for the service more than 25 years (elsewhere also) told me many tricks which are not listed on the official lists, internet or paper.
(Actually it's not in their interest to do it the fastest way, if one petitioner makes a mistake, or has not the best information available, and he file again the additional charges are a gain to the office! -- That's their mentality ultimately, unwritten or confirmed anyway)
He told me how most people shuffling papers there being gov. workers are very uneducated and hard of understanding, if something it's not very clear written or in order it's simply delayed!

About the personal checks, again they don't say that, but once they get them they keep the papers unnecessarily at least two weeks longer before starting processing them, they have a reason, even though they deposit the checks immediately.
While the ones accompanied by a money order are not delayed.
I said, perhaps they want to make sure the checks are covered in the bank, but no, he said, that's not the reason, besides who would dare to send such a check to a federal agency, it's very unlikely, but sending personal check delays the process, guaranteed.
So you have your choice, right there!

We send personal checks.

Make sure it is for EXACT amount which is required for application. (had a friend who sent it for more than supposed and application was returned)

Good luck,

Make the money order out to Immigration and Naturalization Services.  That should take care of you.
